VW Golf R Cabriolet Revealed

The way things are going, Volkswagen's annual Worthersee GTI meet might some day be the R meet, with the German automaker continuing to roll out new high-performance R versions of its models.

With the Golf R and Scirocco R already in production, VW is showcasing a concept version of the Golf R Cabriolet at the VW fanboy get-together in Austria, using reaction to inform their decision as to whether or not the car will hit dealers.

Billed as the fastest open-top Golf ever, the car shares the same turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with the standard Golf R making 265-hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-62 mph time of under 6.0 seconds.

Along with some custom bodywork, the Cab gets a suspensions that's been lowered by one-inch, 19-inch wheels with 235 wide tires and upgraded brakes. Inside, the interior is both sporty and luxurious with blue and gray sports seats as well as carbon and piano-black accents.

As of yet the Golf R Cabriolet has not been confirmed for production, but if there is sufficient demand it certainly will be as this "concept" is all but production ready.

Soo... vw put an R line body kit on their still concept mk6 cabrio and brought it to a car show where they always bring some sort of one off that never sees production (w12-650 mk5 gti anyone?)

All i can say is, yeah it looks nice, but it will never come to be.

Cabrios have always come with base engines.... the same 2.5l fwd in the regular golf is what we'll see, if they come out with the golf cabrio agian instead of the beetle cabrio.


I'd rather they didn't, i know i'm sounding crumudgeony about their new stuff, but a cabby just isnt a cabby without the bitch basket handle.

Here in the UK it's £33,000 You can get a 2nd hand Porsche 911 for that

Looks to much like the Eos. I basically thought the Eos was a remake of the vw cabrio that they stopped making in 2002.

Those 'Talladega' wheels are also on the Beetle R Concept
and are fantastic looking in chrome. Am going to have a set
in 18's made for my 2012 Turbo Beetle due in about a month.

Ok, how about a Beetle R Cabriolet? I think that VW will be producing more of these types of cars; did you hear that they officially have created a new division of VW to design these prototypes and production cars?

Volkswagen Creates Performance R Division

Seems to me if you create a new division; you would be more serious about producing the cars... right? Lets hope so! Hopefully, there are more R's to come!
