Default 2012 Volkswagen Beetle Priced From $18,995

Volkswagen has officially announced pricing for the 2012 Beetle. Pricing will start at $18,995 for the base model equipped with a 170-hp, 2.5-liter five cylinder engine ($19,765 including $770 in destination charges). The Beetle is capable of 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway when equipped with the standard five-speed manual transmission.

The 2.0-liter 200-hp turbocharged four-cylinder Beetle will cost $23,395 and achieve 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway when equipped with the optional DSG transmission. This model will also receive Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, larger brakes, a spoiler and metal pedals along with other features.

However, pricing has not yet been announced for the 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine which is good for 40mpg. This engine will produce 140-hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. VW stated this engine will make the 2012 Beetle the most efficient car in the nameplate's history.

Three different trim levels, and the killer Fender audio system will also be available.

Dutch prices :
Petrol available from mid November

Beetle: 1.2 TSI gasoline (starting 19.990 Euro)

Equivalent in dollars :
Beetle = 28,386.78 USD

So for a well equiped "Design"1.4 160HP car it will set you back at least 3Ok euro = 42,000 USD

Maybe, but you have to look at average wages in Germany vs US and the exchange rate between the dollar and Euro, too.

VAT and exchange rates makes it impossible to compare prices like this. A well equipped car is going to have a higher VAT percentage then a base line car.

Where is the NNB being made?

Puebla, Mexico for the NA market. I'm not sure, but maybe Wolfsburg for the Euro market.

Post Popocatépetl.....

That may help comparing prices: In Germany, VAT is uniformly 19 %.
