I loved the '38. He didn't say much about the interior touches on the '12, focusing more on the engine and transmission. Shame.

I am glad he liked it.

I liked the car vending machine at Volkswagen headquarters. It was like selecting a candy bar. The 1938 and 2012 were both fun to watch too.

Pretty sweet vid! I was digging the transmission and engine talk myself.

Here's another drive test from autoweek I'd start a thread just for drive tests but I don't have those rights.

I changed the title of this thread, so it can just be an all encompassing thread of the various test drives!

Don't blame you at all.........For 25 grand, you could buy a pair of really nice late-model New Beetles. With that said, I don't need a 2.0T and will wait for the base 2.5 gas Beetle to arrive at $6000 or so less.

Is it weird that I'd take a GTI over the 2012 Beetle?

On topic post part http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...ive/index.html

I'm torn as to which model to get. I have a PT Cruiser with 2.5 4cyl Turbo (212hp) so I know how nice that is, However the 2.5 5cyl sounds like a very good engine too with lots of low end torque, and it takes regular gas plus it has been re-tuned for better MPG. It costs less too.
The Turbo sounds like it only comes with 18 or 19 inch wheels and those tires are expensive and no good for potholed city streets or mileage - plus wide tires are useless in winter snow.. I won't go for more than 17 inch wheels which I have on my PT.
I do like the carbon fiber dash trim that comes with the turbo though and I think only the turbo has the multilink suspension in the rear while the 2.5 is just torsion bar.

I guess I'll just order the turbo and look for someone who wants to swap wheels.

I recall that the Autostadt Tower would become a requirement for all new VW factories going forward. I can't find the article that quoted a VW rep stating that, but I expect it of the US factory.

Alas , I don't have the budget for a new one , either . But if I could , I would go for the turbo version . What can I say? I love going fast!!!! I do like what I see so far . Definately worth saving my pennies up for!!
