Volkswagen Beetle GRS is Fastest Ever

It’s a tribute to the 1970′s era GSR and it’s the fastest production Volkswagen Beetle to date.

Unveiled today during the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Volkswagen says it only plans to offer 3,500 units worldwide. The car uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine as the more common turbo model, but it’s been tweaked for 10 extra horsepower.

That extra power is enough to push the car from 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph.

GSR stands for “Gelb Schwarzer Renner,” which translates from German to say “Yellow Black Racer.” As you can see, the car has heavy black accents and “GSR” lettering painted along the sides. It also gets 19-inch “tornado” wheels.

The ostentatious color scheme continues in the cabin with matching interior accents, albeit in a much more subdued form. Black leather seats get yellow stitching and there is a GSR badge on the dashboard.

If the big spoiler on the back, the black and the yellow all look good, you can try to order one when they go on sale this fall as 2014 models.

Wouldn't any chipped 2012+ Beetle 2.0 Turbo beat that in terms of HP and 0-60? According to the write-up it's only adding 10 HP to stock.

REVO claims a +35-60 bhp gain and +50-80 lbft torque gain on a 2.0TFSi, and +35-45 bhp gain and +80-90 lbft torque gain on a 2.0L Tsi...

I'm pretty sure the article assumes that it's the fastest available stock... But that's also a lie.

I'm pretty sure the RSi is also a lot faster. (Just wasn't sold this side of the pond)

I dont see what this big deal with it is i was excited untill i saw the specs. I dont see what the big deal is about an extra 10 hp. This still doesnt compete with other turbo cars that get this kind of hipe. At the same time there will be a lot of people that will get this but i would still rather have the tdi.

I wish they would make another RSi type of Beetle; up the production numbers and sell it over here in the USA, I'm tired of all the cool VW's that never make it here! A black front hood and a set of truly unique wheels would have set off the look much better, as well as a more color themed interior like the sport new beetle models... come on VW, stop with the paint schemes, stickers and badges... make some real performance models!!

As Toad and others have stated....there are 250 RSi's out there that would beg to differ.

Let's see what they come out with next and if the Beetle R will ever emerge.
