I really really don't mean to be a jerk here. I will edit my post if I offend, but I was going to swap ECU's with someone and you need to have both cars in the same place at the same time. Also, the dealership is the only person that I have known to be able to swap ECU's without frying them. They usually charge 3 hours labor for this process. I almost had a 6 program Turbo S ECU for $100 until I realized and researched what the process for swapping them was. I really don't mean to ruin your thread and I apologize in advance.

Um...I know several people who have swapped ECU's with ZERO problems...the cars are useless until they get their new "brain" but they can be swapped without "frying" anything. There are several threads about that on the ORG.

I can't find any ORG threads...but there is ALOT of info over at the 'Tex in the Vag-Com forums...you will probably need a Vag-Com and some knowledge of the procedures, but you can get that info from this link, as well as the Vag site.

Yeah it can definitely be done and has been done before. I can't remember exactly why the cars have to be in the same place at the same time. Something to do with the (what I will call) serial numbers on the engine and the ECU not matching up. You need both cars so that they can be swapped properly or something like that. This was over a year ago so I apologize for not having all my info lined up. But yes, still a good deal for someone if you can figure out how to do it correctly.

Yeah check in to it and let me know. I would be very interested in swaping with you if it would work out. As as far as both car's needing to be there i am heading to Ann Arbor MI on october 7th to swap seats and possibly a suspension so i dont see why i couldnt head south to OH to swap the ECU's with you.
Thanks also for everyone who has offered info on this. |
