HUH?!

Where do u think u'd anchor it? There isn't one, and, if one were to be developed, the base would hafta sit on the trunk lid and ur board would stick up over the back of the top.

Hm.... actually, it IS possible to make a 'roof' mount for a 'vert.

I've seen at least 2 New Beetle Convertibles with surfboard mounts on them down on the Oregon coast.

They are *very* much like this one that Porsche designs for the Boxster. Much like the Boxster mount, the roof was still able to go up and down.

More than likely the ones on the Beetles were custom jobs that someone had designed after they saw the ones built for Porsche.

But given that concept, the roof still goes up and down, and the doors still open. It (is) possible that some little machine shop could build one, but it would not be cheap.

But it IS possible.

Meh, that's kinda lame IMO, just push the passenger seat forward, turn the board over, jam the tail on the floor and let the tip stick out the back like I do. Gotta get a pic...

I actually have surfboard straps that MAY work for a convertible. They are soft straps and I used to have them for my jetta. I am not positive though... I would hate for you to buy them and they don't work. I will dig them out this weekend and let you know! Personally i just put the top down and shove it in my car, but in the wintertime.. I'm SOL

I've seen about three verts with boards in them with the top down, up and down the CA coast. If the weather's good enough to surf in just do what's mentioned above!!!

I see your problem there...

Maybe a hatch rack WOULD do you some good. But that board would still stick up into the air about 4' or so.

I'd be worried about the wind breaking the board.

I wonder if someone could make a rack that hangs on the side?

It'd have to be securely fastened somehow, but maybe that's an option.
