Remove the snowbox (search on here, I know you will find directions.) It is part of the intake. Higher flow filter (K&N) helps too.

I noticed a considerable gain with Magnecor Racing Plug Wires and Bosch Platinum 2 Plugs.

An exhaust system and high flow Cat Converter can help as well.

You bought the wrong motor for performance, I know I did

Anyway, the best bet for performance on the 2.0 if you want reliability is the Neuspeed Supercharger. You can do a turbo setup, but I don't recommend it if you don't have a backup vehicle.

There will be better options for the MKIV 2.0 as time goes on, BBM can't survive selling MK3 products forever.

I guess that depends on your definition of "performance." If you are looking to drag race, probably ANY 2.0L engine is going to disapoint without MAJOR add-ons. If you are looking for the ability to have just a bit more than most other cars, and to make the Ricer Boys look on with envy, that is definately do-able.
