Default diverter valve/ blow off valve

has anyone taken off their stock diverter valve and put on a blow off valve that vents to the atmosphere and does not reserculate the air. i was thinking about doing this to get a really loud woosh. someone told me if i go with a reseculating one, i wont get anymore sound out of it. i was going to plug the hole on the intake and put the blow off in the other tube connecting to the stock diverter valve. i didnt know if there would be and bad effects from doing this. any input would be appreciated. thanx in advance!!!!!

This really should be in the 1.8T tech forum.

In any case, a blow-off valve will make your car run poorly due to the fact that our cars have MAFs. See, the ECU is looking for that recirculated air and if is doesn't get it it will cause a momentary rich situation and throw a code and CEL.

If you want to have that woosh sound, install a short-ram intake and you'll have all the wooshing you want.

I have the GFB Hybrid BOV/DV - it's adjustable so you can set how much you want it to blow off. I just recently went back to the APR programming, and heard it blow off for the first time in a year

I've had it in the car for a little over 2 years now and never had a problem with the MAF or any CEL lights.
