Default Candy White Is Fave Color For Middle East VWs

They say white and silver are the most popular car colors and it's true. On our 10 day road trip through AZ, NM and NV I did an informal survey and made note of the car colors passing us. 60% of all vehicles were either white or silver.

Here is an article on Middle Eastern VW owner color preference http://www.strategiy.com/automobiles...20060726120506

Since about 2000, silver white and black have been the most popular colors because they're conservative colors. Bright greens, reds, blues, purple, yellows or oranges have taken a back seat as they stand out too much.

in my mind, it says you like to speed. I haven't met too many red car owners who like to stick to the speed limit

Light colors in extremely hot environments make a lot of sense. Bright colors like green, blue, and red also tend to fade quicker here in the states, and I can only imagine how much more so they would in the desert.

Color choices seem to go in cycles, so maybe in a few years we'll see loud proud colors come back.

Oh they will. I can't help but notice how it tends to turn with the politics. The new beetle was first shown in yellow in 98, then green in 99 with the turbo, then in 2000 (election year!) everything went silver EXCEPT Dodge with their signature Red. Ford, VW, Audi, Chrysler... seems they all moved to the "conservative" colors.

I'm sure modern silvers don't fade like the older ones do, but silver fades to a darker shade than it first came with (which is why it's hard to color-match a single panel after an accident). Comparing silver fade to cyber green, though, and well the CG looks worse. The silver goes from silver to "gray" and that's acceptable, cyber green just turns to an almost Citron color (the first new beetle concept color -- anyone remember those?)

So, if you follow my poorly-supported political analogy.. when the office changes, the people's mindset changes, and the marketing changes.

I saw a 2003 CG and it was alot brighter than my 2002 CG. But...Justin's Jenna (2005) didnt seem so much brighter than Skittle when they sat next to each other That I didnt understand. Maybe the 2003 I saw was garage kept?

There are a gillion white and silver cars in SoCal. Not as many black but the ones you do see are always really nice. Most of the expensive Benzy's and Audi's and what not are silver. And I hardly ever see white bugs. I feel that Bugzzi is unique around here because all I see is CG and technos!!
