tried the tom tom and took it back and bought a garmin,it is for me alot easier to use and if you go off course it resets itself and takes you on from there. The tom tom has you go right then right again then right and once you go one block square puts you back on track.for me garmin is alot better.

I have a Nextar unit. It also reprograms itself if you go off course, like the garmin, and I believe it is a bit less expensive.

my only experience has been with garmin and magellan receivers.

i've been using my Garmin StreetPilot 2610 for about 18 months---pretty easy to use, generally right on the money when it's giving you directions. makes family travel and business trips lots easier with "Shirley" guiding us along the way...it's still possible to get yourself lost, even with a navigator, map, and GPS. hehe

downside: the unit isn't portable.

here's a link to one review on car gps sets---consumer reports did a review in one of their latest issues...as i remember, both garmin and tom tom did pretty well.

oh, and I have to give a shameless plug here

i bought mine from an independent garmin dealer in kansas---website is http://www.tvnav.com/ and the owner is Darrell Goheen...great prices and customer service---i'll definitely buy from him again.

I just use a map. It's worked now for 13 years with no major problems.

Cool

Bought my wife a Magellan 500 three years ago and she takes it with her when she travels for business (great for plugging into rental cars). Then bought a Magellan 300 for my daughter who just got her license and is away at school (crucial for driving in S.F.). No issues, both units are portable...

I have been using a garmin c320 for about 4 months now. Love it and it took me from WA to TX with zero errors even with me trying to screw it up....

For me living in England if I buy the Tom Tom 910 it has all of Europe and USA and Canada on it already where as if I buy the Garmin in England if I have the USA and Canada maps it will cost about $300 extra to have these. I can buy the Tom Tom 910 for $780 (£434)
