Default Moviequill Starts Shopping For 06/07 NB

Hey gang, the time has arrived for us officially start shopping for our NB and I don't mean kicking the tires and taking test drives (although that was fun too) I mean we got the cashola now! We want a Pkg 1 auto out the door (tax, tag and title included) for $20k. Think we can do it? I read the "Prices Paid" thread but we can't go by that. The invoice off Edmunds, Consumers Reports and VW has the invoice for $19.101 plus tax as cheapest possible. Will dealers sell below "cost" though? I don't mean below invoice, I mean below their actual cost where they do not make a profit in order to move it off the lot? Are we better off waiting for a base model and negotiate on that? The Fort Worth dealer has two 07s in stock so they must be coming soon? Your opinions? Do we try to get an 06 Pkg 1 below cost, an 06 base if we can find one, or wait a few weeks and grab an 07 base?

also, our only local dealer here has no base models in stock, and only one Harvest Moon Pkg 1 with satellite for $20,650. Next one up is a Yellow Pkg 1 with satellite and spoiler for $21049 but we want something $20k (tax included). Looks like we may have to shop out of town eh? What are the odds dealers will be getting in new 06s when the 07s are rolling in soon

I you trade cars often, hold out for a 2007. If you plan to keep it for a long time, you might be able to work a better deal on 2006.

You might also try checking out several dealers particularly ones outside big cities. There's an old expression that 'things are cheaper in the country', and it applies to car dealerships as well.

Another idea to drive a better deal is to be flexible on the color. Notice which colors are plentiful and which ones are quite rare. It's a good bet that some colors are rare because demand for them is high. They will be less willing to deal on a hot seller.

Finally, check dealer inventories over time and notice if a car has been on the lot for a long time. At that point, the dealer may be more willing to accept an offer to move it off the lot.

I wish you much succes with your NewBeetle hunt.

Default We Bought One! It's Official...

I don't want to jinx it yet with revealing all the details, but we have been dealing long distance with a dealer in Texas on a 2006 NB. Yesterday we agreed on a price, he faxxed up the contract for a look-see, I agreed to it in principle and put a deposit on it. Tomorrow morning (Sat 26th) we are going down to get our baby! Of course this all hinges on the walk-around and test drive (they agreed to that). In case it doesn't pass inspection I don't want to reveal the details on it until I can officially make a new owner post in here Monday or Tuesday... but, guys, right now it looks like we got one!

WooHoooo!

We were in the DFW metro area a couple of weeks ago car shopping for our daughter. There were several VW dealers who had '06s on their lots... if something happens with the deal you're working on, hit the streets and the dealer lots. And take your camera with you-- we'll all expect pics!

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.
