Default Toyota Hybrid recall

I just seen on the news that Toyota has recalled almost all of their 2004 and 2005 toyota Prius hybrids something to do with a SOFTWARE glitch can cause the gas engine to stall. Does anybody else know anything about the recall

No.. Do you have a Toyoto Hybrid?

Cars get software recalls all the time; that's nothing really newsworthy.

I have one. And that is a FAKE news story, that runs around the internet from time to time.

If there is a recall, I have never got a notice.

*edit* Well, I retract what I said. It seems it may be a real story this time. (That is the problem with the internets; so many times, stories that get put on boards that seem real, end up being fake, then end up being real, for real...)

I don't know why people fear recalls.

As far as I'm concerned, it's not a sign of weakness. It's a sign that a company is willing to step up and fix a problem.

I'd much rather see a recall notice, than keep taking a car into a dealership time after time after time because the dealer/manufacturer can't/won't fix it.

I just called my dealership, and they have a prepaired answer; that any service on this recall will be done, when the recall letter hits my hands.

It can't be that serious a recall...

Toyota recalls 160,000 Prius hybrids due to software glitch
10.14.2005, 12:28 AM

TOKYO (AFX) - Toyota Motor Corp said it is recalling about 160,000 Prius cars sold mainly in the US and Japan because of a potential software glitch that may cause the vehicle to stall.

A Toyota spokesman said there are no safety concerns, but that the company has decided to offer repairs free of charge.

The problem may cause the gasoline engine to stall, but it does not affect the electrically-powered brake and steering functions, he said.

The voluntary recall follows an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the US into complaints about problems with the Prius stalling.

The administration said in June that it had received 33 reports of engine stalling in 2004 and 2005 Prius vehicles. Over 85 pct of these incidents occurred when the car was being driven at speeds of 56-104 kph.

Of the affected vehicles, about 75,000 were sold in the US, 70,000 in Japan and 15,000 elsewhere.
Perhaps mine is not affected. So I will wait for the letter, if I get one.

Just got this from a PRIUS board.

Quote:
It only applies to cars made before Nov 21 04

Last 7 Digits of the VIN

04 Models

0001002-0130298 MFG Dates 2003 August 1st - 2004 October 13th

0130301-0133242 MFG Dates 2004 September 23rd - 2004 October 12th

05 Models (first number is plant, they made the 05s in two different plants)

3000002-3013252 MFG Dates 2004 September 30th - 2004 November 16th

7000000-7003412 MFG Dates 2004 October 6th - 2004 November 20th
I don't think mine is affected, but I will check the VIN to be sure.

Exactly. I'd rather have see the recall notices than these "silent recalls" that VW has been so found of lately.

And like noR says... recalls of this type are nothing new.

First rule of telling a joke, never explain the joke. If i do, it just won't be as funny.
