Default Two-point-slow?

Why is the 2.0 sometimes referred to as the 2.Slow? It's really not "that" slow. 0-60 times have been recorded as anywhere from 9.4 to 10.5 secs., depending on whose road test you're reading. Now that's not real fast, but neither is it slow. I know "fast." My previous car was an '01 Mustang Cobra that was tested at 5.4 secs. for 0-60. I also once had a '68 old beetle that was rated at around 20 or so secs. for the 0-60 run. Now that's slow, and earlier old Beetles were even slower, but they "felt quick" right off the line in 1st gear as I recall. All modern cars have gotten faster due to advanced technology. In the 80's, any 0-60 time of around 10 secs. was considered pretty quick. I now the 2.0 suffers by comparison to the turbo-Beetles and the new '06's, but all I know is that when I enter a freeway on-ramp and take the revs way up in each gear, I am up with the 70-75 mph traffic before I even enter the merge lane. "Slow" is a relative term. (Just my rant for the day.)

I have never referred to the engine as a "2.Slow". It was the 2.0 that made me want to buy a New Beetle in the first place, and I will always have a soft spot for it.

It seemed peppy to me.

Some time ago I've asked the same question here.
In a country where there are numerous speedlimits and speedbumps and not to forget high gasprices (althought they're going down), I don't see any use in turbo's and high accelaration.
As long as I can surpass another car quickly and burn some rubber at a trafficlight to show off, that's fine by me
And I can do all this with my 2.0l

I love my 2.0...its got just the right amount of pep. Its not that slow at all. I think its mostly the people that are into speed rather than overall performance that say that, although I could be wrong. But I know a lot of people over on Vortex are like that. But the 2.0 is a very dependable little engine and it gets the job done. Its got good gas mileage and speed. I love it. Only other one I'd go for is a TDI...but thats not until after '08

It's just slow. That's why it's called a 2.slow.
My '73 with an 1835cc engine can beat it hands down.

the 2.slow is VERY slow compared to the rest of the modern vw engines.

If you dont beelive me, you should Dagball. Maybe you would change your mind.

Yes, the 2.0 ins't slow, but it is very slow comared to the 2.5 and 1.8t. 2.0t, vr6, etc....

Looks like the "Fast And Furious" are replyin' now. I'm with the distaff set who replied previously, being an "old guy."

See this is exactly how I feel about my 2.0

I love the engine hands down. Yes I have driven a 1.8t in an Audi and I love it but I dont need the power. I get where I need to go and I dont have any need for the engine to be insane fast though it is fun

And if you havent noticed, I rock the 2.0 hardcore.

Yes, compared to the other VW offerings, it is rather slow. I have had one for years. You can do better with the 0-60 times if you know how to shift properly, and really push it. I passed a WRX from a stop light and I am sure the other driver was surprised... although the 2.0 was really REALLY trying that day. That being said, it is reliable, and gas friendly.

Despite all that, more than likely, my next bug will be a 1.8T.

Naw t'was just a "shot from the lip" comment. Sorry Toad, if you took it negatively...didn't really mean it that way. (We love our 2.0, but our next one will more than likely be a 2.5.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

2.slow...... BAH!!!!!!

Kraut has no problem keeping up with the ricers. He maintains 80-85 on highway all day long. And getting up to speed is no problem at all. I have no problems with it.

I think most of you missed the point. It's not about how fast you can go, it's about coming off the line, how fast you get up to speed. I can get my box truck to go fast down the high way, but taking off from a stop is another story.

I find the 2.0 pretty slow. But I got such a good interest rate on my loan 2.5 years ago that I'd be stupid to trade it in.

Now I have a Neuspeed supercharger with a 2.6" pulley, a TT260 cam, and a Neuspeed adj. cam gear sitting in my closet.

The goal is 145whp, which will put me around the same power and gas consumption as the stock 1.8T.

Considering I'm doing it all for under $2000, I can't complain.

The 2.0 is still faster than a TDI. Not mine but a stock one. The TDI feels faster because of the torque but its not. Now my bus, 50hp and 3000 pounds, THAT is slow. Very, very slow. I fear the 2.0 (and most other engines) when driving my bus
