Question Tipping the pizza guy

I was just wondering. What do you guys normally tip the pizza guy, if anything. I started working at Pizza Hut this past Friday and just wanted to see what everybody else does.

I usually give 1-2 dollars a pizza

I actually gave a guy a ten once because the idiots rang up the wrong sized pizza and he went back and brought me the right one back (the wrong pizza wasnt his fault)

The amount of money I tip pizza delivery people is dropping like a stone.

When I had one guy tell me that he was offended that I gave him only a five dollar tip, I have detected a very noticable lack of respect by the delivery guys of late.

Frankly, at this point, I don't care if the pizza has only been 2 minutes out of the oven. Unless the delivery guy starts showing a bit of respect for me as the customer, they get nothing.

oh if I ever got lip from a delivery kid I wouldn't give him jack and not only that I'd complain to his manager about his attitude. There's no law that says you HAVE to tip them, so they'll take whatever you give. If I got lip like that after tiping 5 bucks I would have been: "oh I'm sorry, let me see that 5 I think I got something bigger" and lets say he handed the 5 spot back, that's when I would say:<add Soup Nazi Voice Here>"No more tip for you" and close the door. But that's just me

i worked as a pizza delivery driver for a year or so in college. this was back in '96. i would make about $12-$15 an hour delivering pizzas.

i tip $1. $2 if weather is bad. i don't tip based on dollar amount, but rather service. i get flamed for this all the time. but in my mind, if you and i are having dinner and my meal is $15 and yours is $7, and we both get the same level of service, why should i be tipping twice the amount just because my meal is more? more expensive meal does not equal better service.

i have also been known not to leave a tip if service is bad. bad service...NO TIP FOR YOU!

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

I, too, worked as a pizza delivery driver. It was a second job, since I bought my first "new" car, back in 1988. I was a single parent, small child, paying rent, working paycheck to paycheck, no help from the guv. I relied on good tips, since I got their pizzas to them quickly, and being friendly.

So, due to my experience, I tip the pizza delivery driver very good. Because I know.

FWIW, as I have a few relatives who own rather successful restaurants.

If you get bad services, a small tip sends the message much better than no tip.

If you leave no tip, the waiter thinks you are cheap. If you leave a small tip, then they get the message.

I just get the pizza; I am not a fan of delivery pizza. After one too many screw ups, I just found more peace of mind getting the pizza.

I quit ordering delivery pizza, when the local pizza places indicated it would be 60 min to 1 1/2 hrs on busy Fri/Sat nights, if being ordered from home. We find it easier just to call in our order, drive the mile to pick it up, and its hot on our table in 20 minutes.
Most of the time, I call the order in when I leave the office and pick it up on the way home.

I think that if you left a small tip they would still think you're cheap.

I tip 20% for any service I receive(brow wax, manicure, food) if the service is excellent. I heard someone say that if you leave no tip they might think you forgot. Once when I had bad service somewhere I left 50 cents for dinner. HA!

Being in the industry of that right now i have servers who are good people but when we all rely on the kitchen to make sure our food is out and ready to eat in a timely manner, its really harsh to punish a good working server on something that wasnt there fault. Some people understand and still leave a good tip, but most take it out on the servers.

Remember guys, these people are humans who at least have a job and are trying to make it with what they can get. Anything less than 15% for a resaurant is ridiculous. Just count the tip in the price of your meal and expect to spend that much. If i get bad service i leave 15%, if i get good service i will leave 20% and great service and wonderful time i leave at least 25% no matter how big or small the bill is. The smaller it is, the more i tip in fact.

Back on topic, pizza guys i give at least 5 dollars for a single pizza, and 10 for more than 1. One time a guy went back to get the breadsticks he forgot, and i gave him 15 bucks

Its expensive to eat out, when you do, dont be cheap

Fifteen to twenty percent if the service is good, varies (either way) from there depending on service level. If it is a good tip, I try to make a point of handing it to the server in person and tell them directly that their service was great and appreciated.

Once, (only once), at a restaurant in Terlingua the service was SO atrocious it was hard to find a way to make a statement. It was all a server issue, not kitchen. Kath finally came up with the answer - a penny circled in a ring of lipstick on a plate, all underneath an inverted and completely full glass of water! Yeah, she was pretty pissed...

If it was me, it woulda been tea.

I know some people think this sounds harsh, but I concur 100% because good work should be rewarded.

One time RK & I got such lousy service we tipped $1.00 on a $40.00 check. It took a while to get our so-so food, and when we hadn't seen him in 15 minutes, I went to look for a manager. I found our waiter sitting at the bar trying to arrange a date for the evening, and no one seemed to know where a manager was.

As for pizza delivery, I would rather pick it up myself due to past experience with delays and sliding toppings. When we do order delivery, I take 15% and throw in an extra dollar. I worked as a pizza cook back in school, so I know how the drivers rely on tips. It's not like we're rich or anything, but a dollar isn't going to break us.

My real pizza preference is eat-in and get it right out of the oven.

I just go and pick it up. The owners are soooo much cuter than the delivery boys And besides, our street is only 2 blocks long in the whole city and everyone has a hard time finding it. I do NOT like cold pizza
