Default whats it worth?

Hi i am new to the forum and have been reading lots of good info. im not sure if this is the right spot to post this question, but i have been looking for a car and came across a beetle that my dads boss owns. and i am wondering if you guys could tell me what its worth. its a 98 with heated leather seats, 2.0 5spd. with 44,000 miles. he changed the oil every 3-4 thousand miles, it recently had a brake job done to it, and the only thing wrong is that there is a scratch in the pass. side door, and the the plastic piece by the little fog light is cracked. hes asking $7500 for it. kbb says its worth like $6200 for good conditon private party. but i have been looking on autotrader and the beetles around that year and milage are anywhere from 6-8 grand. so can anybody tell me if this sounds like a good deal.

Sounds expensive to me for the year.

98's were the first, and also the most problematic year for NB's. It might be worth it to spend an extra grand or so and pick up a 99 or a 2000 model.

Just my $0.02, but if in your heart you want it, go for it.

Best of luck,

SMG

7500 sounds a bit high to me, but KBB is usually pretty accurate. Maybe you should try talking this guy down a bit... My .02

Doesn't sound bad. I paid 7600 for my 99 in 04 with 80k miles. That was a good price back then. Make the guy an offer... ask him if he has looked it up on kbb.

Go to edmunds.com ,and that should give you a more accurate price for the car in your area.

I bought my 98 --- cloth non-heated seats (since upgraded!), 2.0, 5 spd with 18,000 miles on it and I paid under $7,000 for it at a used dealer back in 2005.

For the record, I have had no major probs with her at all. Very little probs full stop!

We bought our '99 1.8 turbo a little over a year ago. He had higher miles than yours, 86K, but otherwise is fully loaded, *and* a turbo. We paid $6950. Your price sounds a little on the high side, but not outrageously so. Try to talk him down a little, saying you'll have to have the front spoiler/grill repaired. Good luck! We love our NBs.
