Default When Should You Use Sport Mode Transmission?

Still newbie NB drivers here, just passed 4000 mile mark this week. I have used the Tiptronic auto/manual shifter a couple of times, and it isn't always convenient. I noticed that bit of a "lag" in D-drive some of the automatic owner have mentioned, and then I saw the S. Dummy me thought that was just when the Tiptronic engaged but I see now you can drive it in S, more pep, no lag, higher revs in between shifts etc... but is it okay to drive all over town in S, or just when you are getting up to speed (50mph+?) I see that it seems to stay in 4th gear around town, never getting to 5th much. My wife thinks I am wasting gas by leaving it in S all over town. Thoughts?

Oh Todd! What you've been missing!!!!! I actually drive in S 100% of the time and the service guys/sales reps said it's just fine for the car! Of course it eats up more gas but that's okay since I'm married to a big bald money tree

Have fun!!!

cool stuff... looks like she prefers Drive and normal use, and when I drive I'll let her rip!

When Baldy drives, he uses D too! But occasionally at lights, I'll see him break it down into S and I know that he's gonna tear somebody up!

I use the Sport mode anytime I know I will need extra quick acceleration.

Same here. I have been useing it when merging onto the freeway, passing, and occaisionaly when showing off. I shift back down to D when I don't need the extra RPM's.

Ya.. pretty much the only time I use it is when I need to get going from a red light and want to be out first without looking like I am intentionally "flooring" it.

Otherwise when I want to really accelerate I just use the trip mode and manually shift it. It's so nice to lock into a gear on a long cloverleaf and keep the tranny from shifting on you.
