Yup I would
Yup I did
Yup I would buy one

But its a little to impractical right now, no room to put a carseat due to the lack of a backseat.

Once my son is old/heavy enough to ride in the front seat. I'd totally rock one.

They have been available in Canada for over a year now, probably closer to 2

people need to drive more cars like this and not big SUVs that take up 2 parking spaces and roll at the flip of a coin...

There is actually a dealer here in Vancouver, WA that has two of the Smarts. They bring them down from Canada and modify them to be legal in the USA. Get this though, they want over $25k for them! When they go on sale in the US they're supposed to be available for about $14k. I love them personally, they're so small and get amazing gas mileage. They are a little impracticle for the typical American though. I would imagine most people have them as a commuter car, not a main car...but ya, I'd drive one, they're HUGE inside! The dash is bigger than the Beetle, I loved it.

For my answer, I would love to drive it, I'm a commuter and it would save me a lot on gas mileage and cost way less than a hybrid.

But, in the next 4 years I will probably have a child and that is not big enough for a carseat. Too bad though!

I'd also imagine that being made by Mercedes, it would be pretty high quality, no?

Supposedly Mercedes is working on a four seater version.

But, yes I would drive one.

I'd worry about getting hit in one, they are small - I'm be a bit worried about Smart going under as well, they've been performing pretty woefully.

We have them in Australia BTW - not very popular.

They did a crash test of the car hitting a concrete barrier at high speeds, the entire cabin was protected by the steel rollcage built into it, they could even open the door still. the problem with that is the car has to bounce to absorb the impact, whereas larger cars have crumple zones.

First, SUVs only roll when irresponsible drivers do around corners too fast in them. Second, just about all of them will fit in one space when the driver parks accurately. The problem is the driver, not the vehicle.

As fuel efficient as the Smart is, it's not much use when you need to transport yourself, 4 teenagers, and gear for a weekend youth retreat.

Would I drive one? I'd say I'm a definite maybe to yes. For $12k and 40+ mpg, I think my knee jerk reaction first choice would be a pre-owned NewBeetle TDI. Plus I'd never have to mess with the Georgia emission test.

OTOH...Given the traffic, parking, and pollution problems in downtown Hot'Lanta GA, there's definitely a market for them. I've been riding our transit system, MARTA, since June 2005, and a Smart car to get me from home to the train station would seem like a good choice.

Absolutely!!

I read about them before I got my NB. I was bummed they weren't available in the US.

I am horrible at parallel parking and you don't have to in a Smart! You can pull in facing the curb.

I think you can swap out the door panels so you have color options, too.

They're pretty neat cars. I seen them everywhere when I lived in Japan and they're everywhere here in Germany but not very practical for me. Course if I had money to blow that'd be different.

No way. If I change vehicles I will be going bigger, not smaller.
