My 14 year old son is heading to Wichita Kansas today to compete in the S.O. Nationals. Their team got first place in regionals and they are first in the state. I am so proud of him

You should be, way to go. Is this the same competition that started out a long time ago, in which they had to build a basal wood bridge, and see how much weight it could support?

I am not sure how long it has been around. The team he is on has won state 9 years in a row. There are at least a dozen or so competitions at it. My son is doing Meterology, metric masters, and write it do it. My 4th grader competed for the first time in March and he did one called straw towers and you had to build a tower out of straws and see how much weight it could hold without breaking.
