Default What kind of driver are you, straight lines only or curves?

Last week on my way home from work I noticed that there was a Camaro following me into the toll plaza. I had my radio up pretty loud so I couldn't hear whether it was a V8 or a V6, but it looked like it had been lowered just a bit. As we passed the last intersection and the lane opened up, I saw him make his move. He passed me on my right, we went through the toll booth almost simultaneously, but I didn't want to race him for the entrance that we were taking, so I let him get ahead of me. So I turned down the radio to listen to his exhaust, and to take a look at his pipes - aha a V8. Knowing that the entrance we're both about to enter is a winding downhill tight radius curve, I think to myself that this guy is going to just burn through this curve. Wrong! Before I knew it I had to tap the brakes and make a phone call while this guy tip toed his way through the curve. What a disappointment! I had to laugh as he gunned his engine again as we merged into traffic. I don't have any suspension mods except for a set of 18" wheels either to make it so bad.

So, how many of you out there prefer driving more enthusiastically in a straight line, how many prefer the curves, and how many of you enjoy both?

I used to like the curves until one time I was taking a curve kinda fast. It was winter time and there was some salt and sand on the road from a previous snow storm and I hit a big patch of it and spun out and went sailing into a guard rail. I messed up the front of my z-24..not too badly though. I cracked the edge of the hood (yay fiberglass!) and part of the grill. Other than being shaken up a bit and a little embarassed me and my car were ok. Now I take it easy on the curves and floor it on the straight away!

Why7 both of course. Curves are funner though. Balancing braking, turning, slip angle, throttle, and available traction is just too fun.

Yep, been through that ordeal with my Mustang. I was coming back home because I forgot my wallet, lost traction (snow) on a curve, and wound up on a snow bank in someone's front yard. Luckily I was down the street from my house at the time. Cost me over $500 to get all the damage fixed, and I still had to go to work! The Mustang doesn't see a snowflake now, but I still love the curves!

Maryland is a bunch of big hills, straightaways and hooking turns...

I love em all.

VW, accelerate through the turn!

Why curves, of course....

Funny thing popped into my head when I read some of the responses here was a memory of my mis-spent youth.

I had the camero and this guy, Mike Saunders, has this POS Mach-1 Mustang.

Long-story-short, he shot his mouth off at Angelo's pizza, we hopped into our cars and started tearing though the area. (Ok, looking back were were both a couple of dumb's, so their you go)..

One tight left turn with some loose gravel/debre at the apex later, good old Mike was parked, rear end first, on someones front porch.

He lost his license until he was 19 or so, cost him a few hundred in landscaping and porch repairs, and was to talk of school for a while (and not nice, positive talk either).

It's amazing some of us survive our youth...

Peace....TechnoTrix'd...

Whoa whoa whoa now, who said racing someone in a turn? :P

I'll race the clock no problem. I'm not going all door-to-door w/just any tom, dick, or jane.

Maybe on a road course, whever everyone's there to have fun and now plow into someone else's car. But yeah, DEFFINATELY not racin' in the curves next to someone.

I did that once; my buddy in the Jetta almost sideswiped me, and ended up slidin' backwards into a tree. Guess we found out at which point his Goodyear tires gave up. Deffinately no plans on doin' curves NEXT to someone. Not w/o some confidence in their driving abilty.

Since there are too many straight roads here, the poldersyndrom can be caught.
Therefore I like a road a bit curved. I'm not going through a curve like a maniac, but also not like a granny
I like sportive driving.

Yeah, now you're talkin'. If I'm gonna drive 'enthusiastically' it's much more likely to be down a curvy road.

I with you 100% on that one. If on the rare occassion that I'm racing somebody (road rage is more like it), if we're going into a curve that's usually where I leave them. Most likely the person ticked me off on a straight, so I know that they can't drive through a curve. Illinois has this "my car cost more than yours, so you're not allowed to pass me" syndrome.

Didn't see the video yet, but know exactly what and where you're talking about. I love bikes as well. Bought my first one about 3 yrs. ago, but learned painfully that you don't hop on a bike when your pissed off. I've been lusting for another ever since (too much $$ for bikes and protective equip. though). The next time, I'll be at someone's school learning how to handle curves.

Curves are definately fun, especially in the NB. Low center of gravity+good traction=faster in turns=more fun!
I learned to drive on an '89 Astro van...very top heavy so turns sucked. I always felt like I was going to tip it over, even driving very conservatively. Once I got my car...wow...what a difference and so much more fun! There is a really curvy road down the street from my house that I take to go to once of the grocery stores or Subway. Taking the van...went about 5 under the speed limit the entire time. In my car however, doing the speed limit w/no prob...maybe a few mph over...nothing crazy though.
