Default iTunes help?

Anyone been keepin' up w/the iTunes updates. I stopped way back at 4 because I heard the 4.1 or so screwed up some things dealing with permissions. Anyway, I was looking to upgrade the software and thought that someone from the Org might be up-to-date on the changes. Would know if it's a good move or bad.

I'm all about playin' my music how I want to; and don't need any extra junk keeping me from that. Don't really need any more bells & whistles; but I'm growin' tired of clicking 'no' when it wants to auto upgrade.

So; anyone been keepin' up w/it? Any new restriction stuff it's caused? Any features worth having?

oooooh! well, i can't answer your question, but i have one about iTunes: how do you put songs onto a non-iPod player from iTunes? anyone? i don't have an iPod, but love the iTunes software, but i can't get it to work work with my Rio player.

sorry noR, didn't mean to invade your thread.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

Well currently I do this callisto:
I open explorer[windows+e], browse to the folder of the band I want:
"C:\Documents and Settings\ronald.christopher\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Red Hot Chili Peppers"

click on the album w/the song I want "Californication" and copy the MP3 out of that directory into wherever I want.

The apple loss-less codec (AAC?) can be renamed to .MP4 if your player can play those. Otherwise you'd have to convert the songs somehow to something your non-Pod can play.

If you run into digital rights problems there's a tool out there called JHymn: http://hymn-project.org/jhymndoc/ . That should help free your music (appearently UNLESS you've used the iTunes store w/iTunes6).

So that's how, lemme know if it works for you; and thanks Doin' research to answer you I answered 1 small part of my own question. (But still very willing for any other info guys, lemme know whatcha know)

btw, I followed 'the big secret' link from that page, and it lead to this:

Leaving this information in your files, however, is a dead giveaway that those files once lived a life as DRM-protected files. We know after what happened when iTunes 4.6
Anyone know what it's talking about? I'll look it up in a bit. but it sounds like more reasons NOT to upgrade from my ... oh n/m, I'm on 4.7 at the moment. I wonder what happened? :P

So are there any new features that the older iTunes didn't have Herbie? or are they just upgrades for upgrade's sake?

Basicly upgrades for upgrades sake. There's some new stuff for Videos, and Podcasts. And a new overall look for iTunes.

I don't believe that you can load music onto anything other than an iPod with iTunes. MusicMatch has the capabilities to interface with other players, but you have to get the drivers for it, which they handily include a link to get them from.

Possibly Media Player.

I don't know though. My wife has an iPod, and I have a Rio Karma, so I use either iTunes, or the Rio Music Manager

Ron-

I don't know exactly what restrictions you're talking about, but I've got the latest version on both my Macs and PCs and haven't had any complaints. The difference between 4.0 and 6 are pretty drastic, especially when it comes to the music store. There are a lot of new features and things. I'm not sure if you'll find them worth the upgrade or not, but I certainly do.

Also, FWIW, the AAC format (.m4a and .m4p) is not Apple Lossless. That's a different format. AAC is lossy, just like MP3.

6.0.2 I have had no complaints with any of the iPods, and our household has 1G, 3G, 4G, and 5G some formatted Mac, some Windows....no hangups

The iPod updater however, has been causing problems with the 60GB 5G
