Default Car Fax

I just paid for a 30 day access to Car Fax. I ran my car and did find out that it was titled in Texas and again in Illinois before me. Now I just have to figure out how I can get someone to run the title #'s to find out who owned my car and it Frito Lay ever was a registered owner.

Anyone who would like me to run your vin # just let me know and I will run it and let you know what it says. It is free for the next 30 days.

Wow, what an awesome offer! I'll send you a PM later tonight.

I almost did the CarFax on Ted before we picked him up, but I was already in love and too scared to do so.

I might do that. I don't have any information on my car other than that the previous owner was a teenage girl and a dancer. I got the car from a VW dealer but they had no paper work. It would be interesting to see what comes up.

If I were the original poster, I would delete this thread. Carfax is well known to shutdown users accounts for posting threads like this. If they can in anyway tie your email to this thread, there is a VERY likely chance they'll shutdown your account without refund. Carfax and I have gone 'round n 'round in the past over their definition of 'unlimited' reports. There IS a limit.

Edit: I'm not trying to be an , I'm just trying to save you the headache.

The key is to not publicize VIN's here. Do it in PM. And do not charge any fees for running one.

I wasn't trying to cause trouble just thought I might be able to help out some beetle owners in case they didn't want to pay the $30.

I don't know how to delete this and if a mod can delete it that would be great.

Those had nothing to do with my situation. I never offered to run carfaxes for anyone on a forum nor did I charge. My account was locked after I ran what they considered an above average number of reports. It doesn't matter whether or not soemone on a forum charges, when you accept the terms and conditions stipulated by carfax, you're agreeing to run reports for yourself only.

I knew your intent, I just didn't want you to get your account locked.

I think that the key would be to run the vins and get screenshots of the reports and sending those out instead of the

report link, since they're probably checking to see if a report is being viewed by someone other than the original carfax acct user. That's probably something that they do(cross IP refrence) to catch people that give out free reports. Then there's your typical Judas that points the finger at you, damn narcs....

I did just the same thing as you prior to buying our Beetle 3 1/2 yrs ago. I did get an email from CarFax and called them verifying I wasn't in the car business, nor was I using it outside the guidelines. I did run it on cars in the family or cars that I knew were involved in accidents to verify how accurate CarFax might be. I never had my account locked up, but it did tell me they are monitoring the usage.

They said that my user activity put me in the .0000001 (yep, 6 zeros!) percentile of users. I've actually received an email since then inviting me to join a class action law suit against carfax over their definition of 'unlimited'. I got my situation straightened out via email. My account was locked 24 hours and they added that to the end of the 30-day subscription.

For what its worth, don't waste your time with Autocheck. I went that route on my last car and while their reports are cheaper than carfax and for 60 days, I found the reports themselves to be EXTREMELY un-informative. Your account gets flagged with them after 25 or 30 reports.
