Default my paypal account got hacked

Now, my checking account is $500 in the hole, and my paycheck gets direct deposited to it on Friday. Watch your accounts for payments to sales@fireblazehost.com
Any advice on what I can do, or how I can recover the money?

Wow! Take it up both with the bank and with paypal. You must have an afterhours number for the bank. Use it. Then scream to Paypal customer service. That sucks big time! so sorry

Are you sure there isn't a phone# on the back of your debit card?

but it's a starting point if you can talk to a person, and maybe even if you report your debit card they'd freeze the account so you don't have to worry more? if he could get more... (sending 'there, there's' and pats on the back cuz i'd be freaking)

I think in this case Paypal must be liable, since they are causing you to be unable to cancell the acess to your account. Tell them so, it'll light a fire under their rears. I'd send lotsa emails to them.

I agree. Light that fire. PayPal has information on the hacker. They should be liable!

Maybe your computer has a trojan and there's a keyboard logger running on it? Sorry, I don't want to scare you but I think it's important to find out where the breach was.

I don't think a trojan is really likely on your Mac, but I believe you can run Nortan Anti-virus, or the like and take care of it.
Pay pal should be held accountable for your loss.
This is one reason I refuse to do business with paypal. They will claim it came from something you did, not them.

You need to get into your bank ASAP.

When my wallet was stolen, I was able to get a new account opened and the bank actually did a forward on all items coming in and out that were supposed to be there, like my insurance, direct deposit.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. I hope you can get everything worked out!

The bank is issuing me a new checking account, and waiting to see what paypal says before closing the old account.

Just on the top of my head, here are some things to check:

1. Does anyone know your paypal account and password?
2. Did you write the information down on paper and someone have physical access to it?
3. Do you keep it (account id/password) electronically (say spreadsheet file)? Is it password protected. Is it electronically and physically hard to reach?
4. Is your password easy to figure?
5. Have you accessed paypal from another computer (work/friend/laptop/etc)?
6. Just by your email account, you seem to be an online seller/retailer. I can be wrong. Do you publish this info at a website? If you have a website, is it well protected/safe?
7. Do you have a wireless router? Is the wireless secured? Is the router secured?
8. Your computer maybe compromised by various methods. Are there redirection in your configuration (in the browser, in the network configs, etc). Unfortunately, I'm not an expert with OS X, you may want someone check your computer out.

Losing money sucks. No doubt. Not knowing how is really really bad. I hope this can help you lead to where the breach was.

Paypal just found out what it was, my kid downloaded music from myspace and it has a keylogging trojan attached to it.
Not a retailer, I just got sick of people not being able to understand my other email addresses and changed to something easy to spell.
Anyone who dl's music, time to run a trojan checker...anyone know of a good one for OSX?
Also, how can I secure my router better?
