Default Turbo S or Turbo Cabrio?

I had a Red '02 GLS for about 6 months before I sold it to go down to only having one car since my wife and I both work at the same place and rode together. My Beetle wasn't being driven, so I figured "Why make payments on a car I'm not driving when I can pay off credit cards to buy a house faster?"

Well, I'm out of credit card debt hell and we just moved into a new place and now I'm missing my old Red Bug.

I've been looking on the 'net and can't decide between getting a Red Turbo S or a Red Turbo Cabrio. I've never owned a convertible, but think I would really like to. Plus the wife is big on a 'vertible. However, I like the Turbo S for the sporty looks and performance, and am taking a chance with the Cabrio that I may or may not be able to get the Caractere kit for it later.

I could probably live without that 6th gear too. I think...

Now, if I could just find a Red Turbo S Cabrio, I'd be set!

Decisions, decisions. I'm glad I'm not you.

While I was married (recently divorced) we had my Platinum Gray Turbo S, and his Tornado Red 1.8T convertible. So we didn't have to decide.

He still has the 'vert, and I have a Uni-Red Turbo S now. Good luck to you, the right one will call out to you.

From this summer.

This is what you want: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=&cardist=2704

BTW, finding a red, turbo, 5-speed, leather sport seats (just like Turbo S w/ the 2 dials on the side) vert is not gonna be easy or cheap. However, finding a red Turbo S is gonna be a lot easier and a lot cheaper.

Turbo S vert? Click my sig for approx what u want, but in black.

I have a Turbo vert and I do not regret it. Everytime I ride top down it is like I'm on vacations (eventhough I'm going to work... )

Bill, your bug rocks!

At this point I may be leaning more towards finding the red turbo convertible and tricking it out.

Thx! Make sure u get one w/ the sport seats, they come in black or beige on the red. To tell the difference, they have large side bolsters, two seat adjustment dials instead of one and are NON-PERFORATED.

Not available aftermarket AFAIK, not available as an option on NB's anymore, at least in the US. U might be able to get a set off a wrecked one and it would hafta be an '03, the '04's and '05's have extra airbags.

Get the vert and upgrade the ECU software. You could equal or possibly beat a stock S hardtop with the right software.

And the sixth gear really is only usefull at triple digit speeds anyhow.

Tintop! In my opinion, the TS body bits look far better than any of the aftermarket body kits available. Also, any TS is factory-loaded with everything you could want; the only option on them was the 6-disc changer! Also, hardtop is a more rigid car for driving hard.

Anyhow, I'm partial to my TS, so take my statements with that in mind.

I'd get a vert, throw some .:R seats in, and call it a day.

Oh, and a chip, and coils and a RSB.

Bills Beetle vert is the standard for a great beetle. With that being said, go for the convertable. If ever I get an additional beetle, it will be a vert.

If BillsBug can't persuade you, you can't be persuaded.

Chipped the vert is much faster than the stock S and equal to a chipped S.

The 6th gear has exactly the same top limit as the 5-speed, I think I used it ONCE in two years, on a trip to Disney on the FL turnpike.

Forget those previous generation R32 seats, they are just too heavy. Get the new generation R32 seats, they are much lighter and have openings for racing belts. Not sure about throwing an airbag code tho...

That's stock crank hp, chipped they are the same wheel hp (around 200whp).

LOL, the 'standard', not sure I can live up to that, but thx!

BTW, it's CONVERTIBLE.

Not trying to persuade the OP one way or the other, I've had both plus a '99 GLX 1.8T, but I waited 10 years for the Concept1 convertible "Power Beetle", since I saw a pic of it in 1994, it's what I always wanted.

Yeah, w/ the top down it's 10x louder than being in the tintop, u can really hear the engine and exhaust. I like that.
