ahhhhh. beer.
you can talk me into most flavors of sam adams, and i do have a soft spot for a number of specialty beers from Leinenkugel's (Creamy Dark, Red, and Double Bock Lagers) and Shiner Bock from Texas. Actually, it's my last night in el paso, i'm on the .org, watching american chopper, and having a Shiner. not a bad evening. ![]()

Hooray for another beer thread! I'd started one on the old forum, glad to have one here.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like my beers dark and rich... (enter cliche here). My favorite is Spaten Optimator, with Ayinger Celebrator a close second. I was just in St Louis last week and was able to pick up a few brews I can't get here: some New Belgiums and a couple of Schlafly styles, a brewery local to STL. I'm gonna try to get to their beer festival next month to once again sample their 40 different styles! It's a great way to spend a Saturday. Great thread, Alan!

I'm all about the hops.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, just about any IPA, the hoppier the better. Of course, a Guiness, Harp, Old Speckled Hen, Boddingtons, and the like will be happily, consumed by me. The best beer by far, though, is the Guiness Foriegn Stout that is brewed in Jamaica. Can't find it anywhere else, but in Jamaica. I stay far, far away from mass produced American beer. It's just utter crap.

I started a beer thread here on the new (here) org last summer. Should still be around. Jacob and me...we hangin one day. ![]() I'm with you though dgoldb... the hoppier the better. It took me a while to get used to it, but i'm finding that the more hops, the more satisfying the beer actually becomes. I too am a big fan of Harp, Guiness, and Boddingtons. I also enjoy Hoegaarden (spelling is off) and a whole crapload of hefeweizen and other wheaty imports. The Germans have some fantastic stuff coming to the states lately. I have to say that i'm very much interested in domestic microbrews. Lately i'm loving everything by Magic Hat, Victory, and Brooklyn Brewery. I just was at the bar last weekend and tried Stone IPA and it was so good i had to have about 2-3 pints. I wasn't driving, so it's all good. A recent favorite of mine is by Victory, called Hop Whallop. It's quite possibly the smoothest of all the strong hoppy higher alcohol content brews. It's slightly bitter on the finish, but it's the overpowering hoppiness that reaches back and smacks you in the face on every sip. It's good with a nice hearty dinner like a burger and fries or a beef stew, but i enjoyed most of it with nothing but another Hop Whallop waiting next to the first. I this the abv is about 6-7%, so if you drink alot yer gonna get a little snotted. This photo is accurate about the body. It is a tad bubbly, but it's good because the bubbles expand the hoppy flavor by incorporating the gasses expelled from those bubbles and intensifies the flavor. ![]() This very weekend i'm loading up 2 growlers into either the Bug or the Bunny and we're heading to Princeton to visit Triumph, a nice little brewpub (also in Philly). Last time we went it was possibly the best freshly brewed beer i'd ever tasted. Their red is phenomenal! I will have to take some pics for you all. Which reminds me...do you have and how do you clean your growlers??? Here's what my growler looks like: ![]() also have... ![]()

Hoegaarden is my latest fave, it's kinda like Tucher. I like they're company slogan: "If you don't have Hoes in your home, you're not really having fun.".

Hoegaarden is the whitest white ale i've had. So deliecious. ![]() |

Hoegaarden is fantastic. Blue Moon is also a white, but they are nowhere near the same level of quality. Squeezing a slice of orange into any white ale is pretty tasty. Also a favorite is the Dirty Hoe: a Hoegaarden with a healthy splash of Lindeman's Framboise Lambic. Makes the ladies happy!
Personally, I gravitate toward the west coast micros, especially Stone and Rogue. Stone because they are insane when it comes to the quantities of hops they throw in, Rogue because they are completely unafraid of trying something different or new. Both brewers have fantastic beers of impeccable quality. Other faves off the top of my head: North Coast's Rasputin Imperial Russian Stout, Pyramid's Apricot Hefeweisen, Buffalo Bill's Orange Blossom Cream Ale, Dogfish Head's 120 Minute IPA and Midas Touch... A whole lot of various Belgian brews... Also, about half an hour away from Bellingham, up near Mt. Baker, there's a small brewery and pizza joint called North Fork that completely blows my mind. They don't bottle for retail sale, unfortunately. If you want their beer, you drink it there or take it home in a growler.
