Default Anyone a transcriptionist for a hospital?

One of my required classes for Ass. in Business is Transcription. I heard about what they do by my Professor and it sounds like something I could like. I'd like to get input if anyone on here does that for a hospital or dr. somewhere, or if you know someone else close to you that does it.
i'm leaving it open as an option.

I've done transcription for an Engineering firm, it was relatively easy, sometimes it can seem tedious when you have to listen and re-listen to the same sentence to figure out what is being said. You'll be sitting for long periods, staring at a computer screen and typing so it's good to take breaks and get the headphones off.

A friend of mine does medical transcription, which is great if you eventually want to be able to work from anywhere, including home. BUT, you have to get really good at medical terminology and all the spellings. You will be learning a whole new language. Learning the terminology will be the toughest part.

If you can handle that, you're set.

Medical Transcription can be a tough job. The company I work for does outsourced medical transcription, so we employ about 600 MTs.

Physicians are NOT easy people to deal with and there will always be a handful of physicians who are horrible dictators. Talk real soft, mumble, etc. Also, one of the first questions we ask a potential customer is what percentage of their physicians are ESL (English Second Language). So you have to deal with lots of accents in top of everything else.

In addition, patient care is critical. MTs need to pay very close attention to everything. Physicians can often be lazy and won't enter the right info when they dictate, won't dictate patient demographics, and the MTs often have a very difficult time finding the right patient.

Another thing to keep in mind is that patient care is roung the clock. So we have MTs working nights, weekends and holidays.

You also have to deal with a lot of medical terms and drug names. MTs typically get paid by the line. So you have to be able to type fast AND accurately. Now, no offense, but from following your posts over the years, you don't seem to worry about spelling, grammar, capitalization, etc. I'm really not sure that Medical Transcription would be something you'd be very suited for.
