Cool

I'm a cautious "good samaritan". That is to say I'm wary of scams or traps but I'm an all-too-willing participant in trying to assist bonafide (and helpless) stranded motorists...

I would stop unless there were already a few others stopped there.

stopped just a week or so ago...#1 daughter was convinced i was seeing things...dad, why are you turning around?

there's a car in the ditch, on the other side of the road, kiddo...car lights are shining into the air.

how'd i notice it? beats the heck out of me...just did.

a lady fell asleep at the wheel.

somehow, she managed to 1. squeeze her camry between a telephone pole, a guy wire, and a big ole culvert and 2. was ok. just a little astounded at where she ended up.

county sheriff pulled up as i was talking to the state police...ah well, felt good to help out.

I actually stopped one time. I saw a car on it's roof and the wheels were still turning. A trucker had also stopped and was helping them out. A woman went across two lanes, a median and another two lanes in the opposite direction on highway 80 and didn't hit a single car. Talk about lucky! Two boys sleeping in the back one not buckled in I had them step far away from the flipped car just in case it started on fire. They were ok and the trucker had taken the same EMT course I did so I left them when I saw the ambulance coming as there was nothing more I could do.

i would and have ,, turned out the guy had a few too many and slide his car into a ditch and had it buried in a bunch of cat tails , couldnt see the car , just the eerry glow of the blinkers flashing ,,i took the guy up the road to a gas station to call for help , and figured the law would find him trying to get the car out and deal with the bad breath issue

I actually watched a truck flip into a ditch a couple of years ago. I called HP, pulled over, and he walked out, asking if he could use my phone. Of course I let him. His first words were "I wrecked my truck again." Lucky him indeed. I left when the 5-0s showed up.

Dump the selfish jerk! Did you at least call the troopers and tell them what you saw? I hope no one stops when something like that happens to him! (not really but it sounds good)

It depends if its a jackoff who just flew by me driving like an idiot then I think I would just honk and wave. I'm not one to go looking for severed heads. I have bad enough dreams already.

When I actually see it happen I always stop.

Back in the early 90's I had a bagphone in the company truck so I would stop and check on everyone and make the call, not too many people had cell phones 15+ years ago and if I saw it or came upon it within a couple minutes I was usually the first call. Today, I think everyone figures someone else has called, so they don't call--I do anyway just in case. If I see someone at the scene on a cell phone I figure they'll be getting help.

When I was driving in an Army convoy one time a lady pulled out in front of some kid in his Jeep--I literally saw it flipping through the air over the truck in front of me (good reason not to "jack up" your truck--it is not safe to drive over another vehicle)! It was then sitting on its' side and gas was leaking out. The kid was alert and caught up in his seatbelt, so we told him we were getting him out of there. All he was worried about was his Jeep.

I was driving down the street in my vert. I was doing 30-35. This punk kid in a mustang blew past me showing off. Up ahead I see a little red pick up(could have been a VW) edge out hesitate and the pull out , right into the pony's path. Needless to say the guy was hit, thank God near the front wheels, and spun around twice. The pony lost it and hit a small tree.I hurry up & get out to help the PU guy, His head is on the steering wheel and he's out of it. Slowly he comes to and sits back. Just a small cut on his forehead. I made sure no one moved him and asked him his name etc to see how he was. The punk hurt his arm and was a bit shaken up. I waited for the cops and paramedics & gave my story. The EMT's wanted to bust out the guys door because they couldn't open it. I said you should reach in and unlock it first doh! I didn't have to appear in court so I guess the kid pleaded guilty.

Nice self control, LN! Did you at least check on the kids, or just focus on the innocent victim?

I have only been a driver for a short time, since november. Fortunately I have never seen an accident happen, but as a law student I would stop and be a witness for an accident and I would do anything for another beetle driver. My grandma once pulled forward instead of reversing in a parking lot and ended up in a ditch, her and my cousin where both ok. So I guess I would stop.

It was just one boy in the pony. Other poeple were by him so I wasn't worried. He was up and walking around right away.

I have in the past & will in the future. Fortunately nobody was hurt badly in any I have assisted with.
I do this only because it was done for me when I had my accident. Lucky for me one was an ER tech.

My ex & my duagther were on their way home from Cedar Point one time when a car passed them at a high rate of speed and lost control & flipped. My daughter stayed with the one occupant that had the least tramatic injuries. My ex found one with no pulse & started CPR on the other until the paramedics got there, they ultimately failed to save her as well. Even if it was they're own Fault, it was still sad.

If your bf was not in the mood or more likely not able to handle it (some people can't), he could have keeped his butt in the car while you checked on the possible victims.

Like Ln said hopefully you called 911.
