Default Why didn't they rename the 06/07 beetle?

So I started thinking about my '07 beetle vs. my brother's '01 and I just wondered--wouldn't it have been cool if they'd named the new NB's a New Super Beetle? I mean, that 2.5 has some pep. Plus, I think from an advertising standpoint it would've regained consumer attention... Just a thought, whatcha think?

Not really sure it's worth of a name of "Super Beetle".

No offense to those who have them. It's not the fastest NB there's been. The standard 1.8t with a chip is more powerful. The Turbo S 1.8t (standard) is more powerful.

There's a lot of money involved in coming up with names for models, and changing the name just cause there are new bumpers and a different engine doesn't really make sense.

Certainly not the fastest, just a thought. Maybe we advertisers think too much.

Just for example.

All are Mitsubishi Eclipses.

Well, we seem to have made the point that I'm a moron, anyway I wonder what they'll name the new "people's car" there's been talk of.

Adding "super" to the name would give people the impression that they improved it. Don't get me wrong the 2.5 does have some pep but, there really wasn't much change other than the engine and the bumpers.

A Beetle is a Beetle to most who don't drive them. They all lood the same and are everywhere. Most have no idea that they come in such variety. Even some of those with the Turbo S's or are looking to buy one have no idea of how many differences there are form a regular non Turbo S.

Not meant as that one iota.

Just that the "minor" NB changes still look like the NB, and my point was that the Eclipse has changed obviously over the years, but is still called Eclipse.

Alright, alright, it's the same car! Same car, same name. End of story. I'm sorry I brought it up, actually. Silly me lol

I wish they WOULD release a SUPER Beetle.

Maybe a US-version of the RSi?

If they released a NB w/ R32 specs I'd buy into the tag "Super".

...and the original Super Beetle is generally not thought of well in comparison to the original standard Beetle, so why would that even be a desired moniker?

It's all a moot point anyway, VW never badged it 'Beetle' or 'New Beetle'.

You'd think so, wouldn't you, but I've been asked dozens of times what kind of car I had.

Somebody actually asked you what kind of car your Beetle was? Did you tell them you had a one-of-a-kind Bill's Special Edition

I had the exact same thing happen at a gas station the other day. A lady was pumping up and looked over at Smaug and said, "that's a neat little car...who makes it?"
