Default Poor '08 NB's....

I came across a thread on here somewhere a few weeks ago that hinted that for 2008 VW was NOT offering fog lights and several other certain options most of us have and enjoy in our NBs. Why oh why? I saw a 2008 NB on the lot when I went to pick up my car yesterday. It looks so...naked, plain, and like they stripped some personality from it. Why are they cheaping out?

Maybe (I hope) that they're just going with different trim levels/options, like they did in earlier years with the GL, GLS, GLX.

I dunno, if I remember correctly, they were also no longer offering leather/leatherette, or carpeted floor mats either. Sounds like they're starting to pour a bit of water on the fire to put it out

LOL JuggBugg. I see so many NBs with them I figured they were pretty standard, I think I've only seen 1 or 2 others (aside from the 08) that didn't have them.

I hear that the fogs don't actually do a lot in the fog though

Sorry, I meant I'm wearing shorts.

But as for the topic at hand, I got a base model Bug back in '99. No fogs, no sunroof, I even have manual windows. What upsets me about the '08s is that they have a doughnut spare!

I think other VW models are also going with the mini-spare, but I really liked knowing I had a direct replacement if necessary. I wonder if the storage location is staying the same size, and you could just buy a steelie to go in there?

Ah yes, but all the UK owners running on alloys or chromes don't have a spare anyway

I had fogs on my 04 and was upset that the triple white didn't have them. But honestly, I don't even notice that they're missing. I had intended on putting some in, but have no decided its not really necessary.

I know base models don't get a whole lot for options as is, but it's kinda weird that they may not be offering much at all for the mid-higher trim levels. From what I understand, no trim level is going to get fogs, leather/leatherette, or carpeted floor mats (rubber ones are an option still, I think). Correct me if I'm wrong. Yeah and the deal with the donut spare is kinda messed up to. I never did understand why most manufacturers never compensated or made room for full size spare...you aren't supposed to go faster than 45 mph with one, and that certainly doesn't help those who have a blowout on the highway or someplace far from home.

the 2008 will most likely be the last year, that is why.

see 2005 when the mk5 jettas were about to come out for 2005.5. byebye tdi and 1.8t in the mk4 gl, byebye vr6 for 2005. vw de-contents models on the way out in order to gear up for either a new model or its discontinuation.

that being said, we'll probably get a lupo-sized car to replace the beetle so vw has a smart competitor.

/me hopes for the lupo tdi

Well heck. They should make them go out with a bang, not a sigh

I'm not knocking anyone who has a car with less features, hope no one took it that way. I was just curious as to why certain options were no longer offered, regardless of trim level.

That makes sense as to why they started offering less and less trim options.

Meh, I wasn't a huge fan of the foglights anyway; infact I've removed mine to make the grille area larger. More ventilation in the area that I want it.
