it would honestly be cheaper to go through a local community college and take night classes..unless that isn't an option

Even the online colleges require an extreme amount of time. One of the former org members just graduated from University of Phoenix which is the big online university. He spent at least 3 hours a day studying and had to spend 2 hours a week with the study group which is required unless you are working as in independent. UoP doesn't really like you working as an independent.

You would be better off seeing if Amarillo College has classes in Pampa. I thought they did. My daughter got her CJ degree from AC. She now works for the federal govt as an agent.

Check out AC and see if you can work something out. AC also has distance learning - online and video classes.

My daughter in Maryland takes classes at their community college, but takes all of them online. Once a week she has to go in to take a test, but even her labs for biology are done online. Might want to check out your local community college and see what they have to offer online!

This would be true for any in-state school... you'd get the cheaper tuition and all universities offer some of their classes in an online format.

I graduate from Kennesaw State University in May and have taken 5 of my classes online.

I have taken online classes through my community college before...criminal justice classes actually. It's good for tight schedules since you (for the most part) do the work during your own free time.

One class i took was an overview of criminal law, which had weekly chat sessions on Tuesday nights - I guess to act as a lecture or discussion. The rest of the time was spent writing papers, usually one due each week. Tests were also done online, all multiple choice. It is very important that you read the book, however, since this is almost your only learning tool.

The second class I took was a stat class. Unfortunately, something happened where the professor wasn't really a stat professor, he had some sketchy stuff going on, so we had to learn the material by ourselves. He provided lecture notes, but they were taken from someone else, so he could not answer any questions.

I should also mention I took these classes over the summer, so a lot of material was packed into only a few weeks and went at a very fast pace, so I'm not sure how easy/hard classes are during the fall or spring. I hope this helps blue_stinkbug!

buginme, which CC does your daughter take classes at?

Hartford Community College. They also have some classes on the Army post where she lives. Her husband takes a couple of classes on post, but is going to try the online route, since it is more up to your own time constraints.

I'm completing my Bachelor's at Strayer University online. They have traditional campuses but offer all classes online. The format is good and easy to follow and the content is no different than a classroom class. There is lecture to listen to and Power Point slideshows to watch. Check it out, www.strayer.edu

You might want to start you application now to Pantex and turn it in. It can take as much as 2 years to get your clearance. I hope it works out for you. The DOE has good benefits.

My husband finished his degree online at Kennedy Western University. Like others have said, they were pricey and it did require a lot of work at home, probably more than if he had been in regular classes. Fortunately, they give you some credit for work experience and his employer reimbursed the tuition since his degree pertained to his job. Good luck!

I talked with someone I know out at Pantex. They recommended you apply now and get the ball rolling. You do not require a degree to be a SPO, but it helps if you want to get into management.
