Default The Cheat! Vag Com Master! Keeper and protector of the Volkswagens!!

I just have to say that Justin is The Man! He just left my apartment. He drove 3 hours to fix a 20 minute (or so) problem! He put my seat back on its track..tightened it up and got rid of my air bag light so I took him out for dinner. Wish I could have done more but I'm po'.
Thank you so much Justin!
You Rock!

Technobabble alert:

Here's what was REALLY interesting about Amy's car: it's a 2002 with single-stage airbags from the factory. For 2002, all VWs got dual-stage airbags across the board. Amy's car had the new harness setup BUT the old bags (and the stupid control module that if you scan you could throw that code). She has seats out of a 1998 now (which had single-stage bags stock). Here's where it gets weird, if Amy has a 2002, technically, the code should NOT have cleared without me recoding the module as the driver's bag in the old seat should have been dual-stage. However, I just hooked everything up, loaded up the module, cleared all codes, and the light went away.

My deductive reasoning tells me this: that some VERY early 2002s (like 6.01-8.01) probably got the new harnesses BUT the old 2001 modules and airbags. So I offer a word of caution to all when scanning a 2002: if it's a VERY early model, proceed with caution; it might have a 2001 setup (and module).

Cliff notes: I cleared her code and all is well. I even got free dinner (thanks!). Drive home was great (had a little fun messing with a G35 on the highway...I think he was as surprised as me), and then I couldn't find diesel and had to drive 35mph for 13 miles praying I wouldn't run out. I put like 95 miles on the car with the light on (it went on pulling IN to Amy's). Should have paid the 2.99/gal for diesel in LI after all.

I'm curious about this, Justin. My bug was a 5/02 build, presumed to be a dual system (cause it's not a 01 built car). How does one tell the difference? Furthermore, if I drive to PA will you show me how to use all the VAGCOM features (once I pay for it)?

If there's a GTG in PA, and I'm there...sure thing. Otherwise, a mini-road trip to NC may be in order. :O)

You have a 2002.5...you most def. have the 2-stage setup.
