Default Quick! Talk Me Out Of Doing This!

I tend to be my own best Santa.

This year, I got myself a very expensive watch. Unfortunately, it soon developed problems and had to go back to the store. A replacement is due the end of January.

So, despite the neat Secret Santa gifts and a surprising number of Christmas cards, I still want to get something cool for myself. Which is the reason for this post.

Sirius is offering a radio for 50 bucks that'll add their service to my existing radio without wiring. For another 500 bucks, I can get a lifetime subscription to the service.

I am so tempted!

What are your thoughts?

Where were you three minutes ago?

Sure, XM has some good stuff, too. But so does Sirius, and the price is right.

With my luck, i'd do something like that and they'd go out of business before the $500 was actually equalled out. What would it be, something like just over 38 months?? So, after just over 2 years? Yeah, that would be what'd happen to me. I wouldn't count on Howie turning that company around. He's already signed with them and will be on in a matter of days, but their stock has yet to move. Oh well, i'm sure it's still better than terrestrial radio. I just love my XM though. However i can say i'd love to try Sirius out for a little while just because. I won't switch, but i'd listen.

Let me know how you like it man.

Just to clarify, I did not choose Sirius because Mr. Stern. I chose Sirius because I preferred their equipment, the price was right and the content seems about the same.

I believe satellite radio has a future. Much like cable tv. Sirius and XM are still in their infancy stage. A lifetime subcription at less than the price of five years of normal subscription rates should prove to be a bargain.

Wouldn't it have been nice to have been offered a lifetime subscription to HBO or Showtime about 20 years ago for a few hundred bucks?

So I go to VW Service to get the oxygen sensor installed. (Confused? Don't be. This is the first mention.) But, they don't have the part yet. So I ask if they'll install the antenna for the Sirius.

"Sorry, no," says the service writer.

I drive around, looking for a car stereo installer, but find no one.

Returning to the bus depot, I attempt to install it myself and do a poor job. But, the unit works, and I activate it, ordering the Lifetime Subscription. I'm told by the Sirius guy that a "Lifetime" is 30 to 45 years. Okay, that works. I doubt if I'll be listening past my 80th birthday.

At first, the sound is superb, but later, when driving home, I can also hear static. Lowering the volume eliminates the static.

First impression? There are so any good things to listen to, I can't help but wonder if there are better things that I haven't tuned.

We should all have such problems!
