Default VW Eurovan

Last week (Mon-Sat) I took care of my dealer's kids while he and his wife went on an Audi trip. The mom drives a Eurovan, so that's what I drove while they were gone. Anyone else drive/own one? The van's cupholders make the Beetle's look magnificent!! They're way down low, so getting my Starbucks coffee is out of the question if I want to be able to see where I'm going. They can hold tall drinks, but not when I go around a corner!! The seat's not too cushy either. I'm hoping the mom decides she wants a Toureg or something else before they go on another trip and leave me with the kids!!

Bah... cupholders big deal. I don't even care if a car comes with them to be honest.

Seriously I love and adore the Eurovan. I think its a brilliant vehicle. No its not a plush luxury car but it one heck of a fantastic people mover.

I like those early buses and the Eurovan Amyjane just posted. I would totally have to drop it a bit and slap some thin 5 spoke rims on there...19s or something. I'd have to add hot wheels blue color and some wild flames.

GREAT color CGB!! One thing I like about the van is the way you can rearrange the seats. Nice feature with kids. I guess I'm too used to 'roundness' to really like the van. VW really made the beetle and the van completely opposite in terms of shape!

It's pretty big, so if you are on dial-up, I don't recommend trying to watch it.

s a wär's it a piece of Porsche
It has the motor out of the Porsche Turbo, the Cockpit out of the GT 3 and much place for children. What is that? VW bus fast a 273 km/h!

A bus as well as a hammer blow
Prescription: little bus, much Porsche
Sense deceitwith dangers potential
The spurt on 100 km/h lasts 5.1 seconds

Technical data

A VW bus? Well yes, in any case the basis. For the remainder, Rüdiger Claer provides. The done out of Weisel refines VW T4 and T3. until nearly at the complete reconstruction. Four company-internal commandments determine its doing (ing) : • the bus so quickly should be like a Porsche • the bus should go should look itself like a Porsche • the bus should itself feel like a Porsche • the bus like a Porsche. At least from within.

The result: the CT/4,993, and that unprepared like a hammer blow encounters. It places the author of these lines before proper problems. Where begin, stop where? Perhaps best the row after: Claer implants first of all a Porsche-motor into the bus. The aggregate out of the 993 Turbo should lend the T4 wing. Soon also the Turbomotor will come out of the current 996 to the use.

Normally such a motor in the stern of a Porsche sits. Also in a VW, the power plant wants to take in its tribe place. In the Heckmotor-T3 no problem, in the frontmotorisierten T4 a knifflige matter. So are in the Claer-T4 in the front part of the penance only tank to find standing heating and two batteries. All relevant technology hikes in the trunk. The boxer motor takes in the total rear half of the baggage compartment. And nevertheless: on the rear axle only 30 kilograms of more ballast weigh than on the front.

n this configuration, the bus performs 408 HP. Too little for Claers taste. Finally such a bus weighs more than two tons, suffers air resistance under a grey notebook and can drag (in the Claer-trim) up to six persons. The Veredler gives the bus therefore a hefty performance improvement. To be sure not self-made – Motortuning does not belong to its field of work. The firm call receives this part. The legendary Porsche-specialist elicits the aggregate 522 HP. A strong motor alone makes however not yet happily.

Power without end is compatible badly with front wheel drive. Much smoke and little propulsion would be the sad result. Claer fackelt not long and builds in an all wheel drive. The complete load work and mobilizes on this occasion immediately over. For the improvement potential of the standard T4-Fahrgestells proved to be too restricted. The done exchanges cushioning, push mute, breadth handlebar and all, what does not suffice its high claims. Its bus of the T3 receives the rear axle. only it lasted the motor the necessary free room.

Actually it could let Rüdiger Claer at the same time bewenden: VW T4 with leistungsgesteigertem Porsche-motor, Allrad- instead of front wheel drive and completely modified load work – no person can want more. But Claer would not be Claer, already satisfied would give itself it at this point. As a neighbor, he throws the standard T4-Gestühl out. Goods so, for on a going through threefold-bench no disposition arises really. Moreover it does good would force itself the new generation, already in young years into narrow scarves seats to. Who becomes accustomed early to crack hard Sportgestühl, that demanded also later after nothing other – upbringing so functions.

Claer lends the bus therefore a character new totally. Nothing trister vehicle, nothing thread families carriage, here reigned pure lawn legend race-romanticism. For that bürgt next to the six full scarves above all the Cockpit. Here the Veredler itself exceeded itself. Steering wheel and instruments come from the Porsche 996 GT3. the Schaltknüppel also. It thrones on a powerful means tunnel. That is necessary for the leadership of the Porsche-transmission. That also in the stern sits.

The illusion is perfect: already after few gone meters, the conviction manifests itself to move a real Zuffenhausener sport canon. The high seat position is forgotten, the senses are betört. With goodwill, the hands register that especially to grasping ruffle, stroke loving the Knauf and rejoice in that something schwergängigen, but exact transmissions. The eye falls in love meanwhile with the classic fittings. Porsche should decide itself one day to construct a bus, exactly so would have to look it.

Naturally this sense deceit has also its dangerous sides. Quickly the pilot concerns delicate curves with much to high speed. Beseelt of the calming certainty: "no problem, my Porsche creates that already." And it creates it actually. To attest the load behavior Porsche-level would be exaggerated to be sure, is a normal T4 the Claer-bus however around light years ahead. It concerns leichtfüßig the curves, side inclination wrong. But only insolent become not: Beherzte accelerator pushes call poisonous overcharging forth. How should it be also differently? Finally 522 HP and 675 New sound meters are ready on call.

ntenrum does wakes itself little, first number of revolutions the beast. Also here the bus develops its entirely characteristic style. The motor does not play so beschwingt and leichtfüßig up how it is actual its type. Its intonation betrays rather how much sweat costs it it to bring the VW-colossus on tours. Yet the spurt on 100 km/h lasts according to Claer 5.1 seconds. Can that be true? I believe already. The Vehemenz of the propulsion can be described with three words: violently, violently, violently. No exaggeration: T4 is named the latest member in the club of the super sports cars.

To the comparison: the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo with 450 HP a half second approves itself for the 100-km/h-Sprint more. First in speeds 273 erlahmt of the deeds pressure of the racing T4. insanity. That passes in order to teach almost all the fearing, what has four wheels. The dream of each T4-Fahrers becomes aware – once poach on the left trace. On the freeway, the Bolide bites itself quickly in the wind shadow of a M3 firmly. That becomes nervous to shake off tried the Verfolger. Does not succeed it. Finally the bus with speeds 260 passes, surround of an aura of majestic composure.

Betray only the thick exhaust pipes how wölfisch goes it under the sheep fur of this T4 to the thing. A Spoilersatz lends the bus only a more pleasing form. Threateningly the vehicle does not cause through it yet long. The call-wheels in 19 customs fall only connoisseurs into the eye. To the termination the shock: extremely much money costs the reconstruction. The done demands 168,000 Euros – without basis vehicle. Inclusive T4 the price sums up itself on smooth 200,000 Euros. There one must swallow... nevertheless: severity at its four commandments orients, created Claer something unique. The belief transfers sometimes really mountains.

The firm Claer celebrates this year its 20-year-old anniversary. Nevertheless the Veredler is out of the Hessian Weisel the least a concept. No miracle, Claer serves a very special customer circle of time immemorial. Originally the done was specialized on the Mercedes 190. It missed the baby-Benz-SCND-optics and wider cheeks. 1987 then the reversal: the first VW T3 with Porsche-motor was placed ready. The interest quickly was found large, a buyer. Claer equipped more than 40 penances in the mean time with a boxer motor out of Zuffenhausen. A reconstruction lasts up to 14 months. Change must be: momentarily Claer constructs a means motor-bug up. Naturally with Porsche-motor.

Technical data Claer CT /4,993 Sechszylinder-Boxermotor, behind along • Biturbo • 2 valves per cylinder • Hubraum 3600 CM3 • achievement 384 kW (522 HP) in 6000/min • max. Nice Westy Capt'n...

I have owned two of the late Vanagon's or T3's (87 & 91). They were great, wish that they had not gone to the T4's. Just too small and lost the advantages that the T3's had.

Hey jdesigns -- that's a van I could go for. It's just looks cool. I like the seats!! The mom whose van I was driving isn't really into cars, probably because her husband is, so the van's a mess inside and out and is completely stock, plus they have 3 kids, ages 8, 5 and 2.
