Default SIM-card help needed

Since the beginning of this month I've changed to a prepaid subscription.
Today I've checked with my provider (Orange) to see what my possibilities are now.
It seems that with my prepaid I can't call, or send textmessages in Northern America. Very handy..... not!

Therefore I'd like to ask: is there a provider in the USA who sells SIM-cards only on prepaid basis which will work in Florida and in the state of NY?
The most important is, which provider has the best deal

Thanks alot for your input!

So T-mobile sells Sim-card only and it will work all over the USA?
If so I have to see if there's a salepoint at Orlando's airport

No, you're likely going to have to get a Phone + Sim Card however it'll be about $80 give-or-take to get the prepaid service setup. Any T-Mobile store or tmobile.com can help you out with buying a prepaid phone packet. To the best of my knowledge, NO US GSM carrier will see you just an activated SIM. See, in America the companies like to bend us over and take us from behind in so many ways regarding communication .... heck, we use the 1900 band of GSM and not 800/1800 like everyone else!

hmmmmmm that's another view on this.
I think it's crazy to spend $80 on a phone+card which I will only use for 1 week
Due to financial issues I went from a subscription to a prepaid, but I never thought that northern America was out of bounds.... my phone ís compattible though

In *theory* your phone and card would roam while over here. The phone, yes, it'll work just fine so long as it's a GSM triband (and 99% of phone made today are). It really is sad that you can't just get a sim. T-Mobile might do it, but I can't say I've ever tried to get just the sim. Of course, if you went on a place like ebay and bought someone used prepaid phone that expired and still has the sim... you can pay I thinka $15 or $20 activation fee to get it programmed.

Thanks for the tip!

I will check with my friend Debbie though, but I don't want to consume her so precious time as she's planning for her wedding

I understand. T-Mobile does not sell in NC, otherwise I'd offer to go to a store and find out for you. I WOULD NOT suggest going to Cingular for help with your dilemma.
