Default The Beetle has been sold... It's a New Day

I've agonized for months over this decision but I finally sold my NBC. I really loved the car in so many ways. Ultimately the primary reasons for selling were limited performance potential (even though it was a 1.8t) and impracticality.

Here's my favorite picture of the Beetle:

I was originally going to sell the car with all the mods but I found that most people didn't want them. So I ended up selling the wheels, brakes, steering wheel, pedals, and seats. Soon I'll post a huge yard sale of accessories and mods that I either pulled from the car or never intalled. Check the .org classifieds in the next few days!

When I bought the Beetle, it was actually a compromise. I had a deposit on an .:R32 but as some of you know, they were delayed coming to the states. So I bought the Beetle since I've always thought they were cool... especially the vert.

My recent purchase is really a matter of going back to square one...

What did I buy?

An '04 Reflex Silver .:R32, 19,000 miles, totally stock.

The first round of mods will be coilover suspension and tint.

Some people don't think the .:R32 is that fast; it's not a drag racer that's for sure but Top Gear proved overall quickness on their test track... the R is in pretty good company if you ask me.

There's already a supercharger kit and a few turbo kits for this car producing 450+ horsepower. A few tuners have plans of tuning this engine for 6-700 hp!!! This is the car you want for that kind of power... AWD and sleeper looks!

I have no plans of leaving the .org. I really appreciate the fun and encouraging atmosphere here. Keep on buggin!

I originally wanted an R32 but the waiting lists were full at the time when I went to inquire about one.

Thanks!! They're not on the car yet - still getting painted (woohoo - snap orange A8Ls!) I can't wait to get them on the car...

And yeah, he sold the .:R in January to a kid in St. Louis.

We have a Touareg V8 and my NB now, though - still fun, but much more practical

AWESOME choice.

if i were in a position to buy a car a used R32 would be my practical choice (the only other thing i really want that comes with a back seat is a BMW). Pookie is the family car so i'm familiar with the silliness involved. also a 1.8T, so i'm also familiar with the desire for more, performance wise.

congtrats!!!

So do guys get Top Gear off the internet or do they show it on cable?

Personally I'd go for the new GTi or Mark 5 R32 - but nice choice anyway.

Both... edited versions were broadcast on Discovery Channel for a while... not sure what the future holds though... most people d/l episodes off torrent on the internet.

The new GTI is sweet... but how much hp can you really add to a front wheel drive car and maintain drivability?

Now the MK5 R32 is another story, but its anyone's guess if it's coming to the states. Not to mention that it doesn't even look as good as the GTI, not to mention the MK IV R32. I'm not feeling the twin center tailpipes, the wheels, or the WEIGHT! This thing is pushing 4,000 lbs!

Plus, IF it ever comes it's probably going to be 4-door/DSG only. I'm interested in neither.

Looks like we've got something in common, you couldn't even get Top Gear in Australia until late last year, since it built up a strong following on the internet they've starting showing it on free to air TV.

Gotta admit to being a huge fan, I've even got an "I am the stig" t-shirt.

Congrats on the car, those rims and seats are awesome in those things.

I've thought about selling my car, but I've decided that when it is paid off in 3 more years I am just buying something else and keeping the Beetle as my baby.

I'm buying a beater this year though, my NB cannot see any more winters, it makes me sad to drive it then

Another POS car can take next winter's beating

It was awesome to have episides (though they were highly edited) running here for a while. I hope they come back! Someone said they (BBC) were contemplating producing a "U.S. Version" of Top Gear with new hosts and an "Americanized" format. What IDIOTS!

I thought about that too... but our neighborhood association frowns on cars in the driveway and it would KILL me for any car of mine to sleep in the elements. Time to start hunting for a new house with a 3 car garage!
