Talking Major League Baseball Thread

I know I'm not alone when I say how excited I am about the start of the 2006 baseball season. I've also seen quite a bit of baseball talk in various threads so I figured I'd take the inniative to start a "baseball only" thread. This is America's past time. I'd hope that it has a special place in all our hearts.

Alright friends, let's talk some ball! And remember, it's all for the love of the game!

Right I'm watching my Atlanta Braves beat the living crap out of the SF Giants. Saw the Orioles lost pretty bad today (sorry, G).

I grew up loving the Mets, and having a healthy respect for the Yankees.

Hated then, hate now, the Orioles.

Now, I watch the soon to depart Marlins, while I still root for the Mets.

Hey come on, what's wrong with the O's? I won't even make a mean comment about the Yankees!

I gotta represent our losing Mariners. I'll still cheer for them since they are the local club.

You want to know? Okay. For years, I lived in D.C. where there was no Baseball Team, mostly due to the Evil Overlord that owns the O's. He would fight, and fight hard, to not let a team come in to D.C. Always said it would eat into his revenue.

Um, someone should tell that to the Ravens, and the Redskins. Heck, they play in the same state!

Now that is why I hate the O's.

It was many moons ago. 1977, I was 16. I worked at the consession stand at the main gate, selling drinks, hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts and cigarettes......

I earned $25 for one game (about three hours), and $50 for a doubleheader (about six hours). Good money back in the day!

1977-'84, I lived in Pacifica (Linda Mar). My buddies and I would go to the Dodgers at Giants day games. We'd get the cheap seats and go to the upper deck. Invariably, there would be a knot of hated Dodgers fans downstairs directly below the railing making all sorts of racket. Of course, it was cold and damp with swirling winds. We ended up becoming best friends with the walking soda vendor because no one else was buying iced sodas from him. We'd each buy a large-sized orange drink, drip a few drops over the railing to gauge the wind drift and when the moment was right...we'd give those Dodger fans a Giants Orange Bath from the upper deck. Great stuff... Never got caught...

GO WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're off to a bit of a slow start (1-3), but they will rebound and repeat as World Series Champions!

I hate the Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves because of their racially offensive names and logos.

Well, can you blame him? You'd probably do the same I guess you weren't in DC when the Senators played? I don't really remember how long ago it was.

I'm not really a National's fan. I guess no particular reason, I just like to root for one team and I've been watching the O's for a while. Why switch just because a new team showed up? I would feel like I'd betray my team! Besides, I hate taking the metro and going to crappy RFK, I love Camden!

right on, giving those Dodger fans a bath! The wind was your friend at Hunters Point!

No way! I lived in San Bruno (top of the hill), and my boyfriend lived in Pacifica (went to Oceana). My boyfriend was a soda vendor at the park! I have great memories of "the 'stick".

Such a small world we live in. Thanks for sharing!

I was waiting for some one to start a thread on baseball. I totally love it! Growing up, we always went to the games.
I like the Yankee's, Boston, Toronto, Atlanta, San Diego..

For some weird reason I cant stand the Mainer's.

The game today with the Giants and the Braves, should be good.

Go Atlanta!!

Oh, but sad to say, I am old enough, and was in D.C. when the Senators played. I was a wee lad at the time, but aye...I was there.

FWIW, the Senators left for Texas around 1970 or 1971, which in my mind makes Orioles ownership full of crap, since the area originally had 2 teams and to boot, the Orioles moved in on the Senators territory when they left St Louis. I root for the A's and Giants and love going to various ballparks when I have a chance. Been to the Stick, Baby Bell Park (SBC), Oakland Mausoleum, BOB (Phoenix), Petco Park and Qualcomm Stadium (San Diego), and last year sat behind home plate watching the Orioles beat the Red Sox (great game from a spectators point though). My best friend pitched in the Yankees farm system (got to AAA Syracuse and roomed with Thurman Munson), but I still can't stand the Yankees. Both he and I are a bit soured on the game due to the money grubbing players, who complain cause they are only getting $12mil/year instead of $20mil. Give me a break!! They'd get more sympathy if they were making 6 figure numbers than averaging 7 and many making 8 digit salaries.

Boo hoo hoo, cry me a river. Pretty sad reason to hate a team, because you hate the owner.

BTW Just so you know, it was soon to be former dictator of the NFL Paul Tagliabue who kept Baltimore from getting a team for so long AFTER the Colts left Baltimore, cause he figured Baltimore peeps should just go see the skins. Pretty Bias opinion seeing as he held or still hold season tickets to see the Redskins.

You don't hear me crying about how much I hate the skins cause we couldn't get a team in Baltimore cause of them. That's what I thought

The O's rock!
