There is no such thing as a great rap song. Rap sucks. Always has, always will.

Negatively generalising an entire genre of music sucks too.

True, but this thread isn't about what people like. Most people though think of rap and think of "Gangsta Rap" or only the new stuff. Rap has survived almost 30 years. I don't think it is going to go anywhere. This list has songs that most people don't know is considered rap.

Twice actually. They are awesome. My favorite album is Toxicity (most people prefer it) but I could literally never stop listening to them.

Dvious, you've got some classic rap songs on there. A few I have never heard of that I need to check out, but overall, I give it a big

I might add Eminem's "Kim" to the list. Its a twisted song, but its good. Also, I'd try to squeeze in Luduacris's "Move [explative]!" That's a great traffic song!

HAHA, now lets not start debating over which songs should be on the list....

Kim is an awesome song though. I would definitely nominate "Marshal Mathers LP" for one of the greatest rap CD's ever. As far as Ludacris's song, I tried not to add songs that only had an awesome chorus. I tried for for the lyrics and rhyming than actual chorus (notice there is no Cypress Hill.)

You're right. You can't. I just don't see the sense in chiming in with negativity about something that was posted. I don't like rap at all, but I don't feel the need to go on to a thread obviously titled for the subject and crap all over it.

Well, I generally hate rap. I am a gal, over 40, and I have two rap songs on my "faves" mp3 CD.....

Beastie Boys "Whatcho whatcho want" (?)
House of Pain "Jump"

Maybe neither are "hard core", but I have fun with them nonetheless.

(BTW, Public Enemys "Fight the Power" is a classic! Do you remember Spike Lees "Do the Right Thing"? )

I don't see any Digital Underground on there. "Same Song" is awesome, and so is "Tie the knot" and the "Humpty Hunp".

That's a nice list. I'd definitely second the addition of a Digital Underground track or two.

On the topic of "rap" in genera: do you really consider rap a genre? I don't. Rap, to me, is a vocal style. You can use the rap vocal style in all sorts of music. Turn on the raide and you'll hear pop songs with rap (for example, Maraih Carey), you'll hear R&b songs with rapping in them (see R. Kelly, T-Pain, etc.), and you'll even hear country songs with rapping (Big and Rich).

To me, this is a list of 100 great hip-hop songs. Hip-hop is a musical genre that usually features rap vocals.

That's my take.

Yeah, that is a better way of explaining it. I just tried to say it spanned all the rap genres. People on other boards aern't getting it. I am gonna post what you said.

Kinda unfair my friend. I'm with you on loving the rock, but everybody has their taste.

Me? I like music. If it's music, it's just a matter of whether i like it or not.
