wedding? what? I'd better get planning this thing...
I love old beetles too, but they're getting harder to find. Back when i was a teenager (shortly before NBs came out) I wanted a regular Beetle, but my grandfather kept freaking out about how dangerous they are. (He get's rather paranoid about some things)
I found a few old and new stretch beetles in my fruitless search to rent/borrow a Beetle for my wedding day. Some people posted some cool pics in my New Member Thread. "Beetle Bride Seeking Advice"

About papa bug's Vandetta picture, I have to take issue with the person selling the motorized thing. I disagree that it is the "most beautiful car I've ever seen." Maybe it's like an ugly baby, only it's parents are ecstatic about its beauty? i'm a bit horrified, it looks kinda like a PT cruiser tried to hump a Beetle with disastrous results.

Vandettas are one of those love'em or hate'ems. Personally I love them- though I would only do it to a bug with a thoroughly demolished rear shell. In a way I'm glad the kits have been off the market(what- 15-20 years now?). Solves all those beetle storage issues and it harkens back to the early 50's coachbuilt beetle panels that VW dealers and retailers used. They're quite rare now, so if you see one in trouble and cheap, tell someone about it. I don't think the rectangular "mulholland" style headlights were part of the original Vandetta kit- those I do find unattractive.
I've been trying to find a pic of Bob Koch's stretched oval window and barndoor (I think) deluxe bus- but no luck. Koch is a well-known vintage steering wheel and general VW restorer and does some beautiful work. His limos were made from fubar'ed body halves as far as I can remember, so there isn't the guilt, either.
