Default I challenge you all to do something

I recently had a very close friend of mine diagnosed with cancer. I pray for her everyday but its not enough to me, so I donated money to the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), hopefully someday this disease will come to an end. I challenge you all to donate and maybe save the life of someone you Love.

I also have a close friend of mine dying from cancer. He's got stage 4 cancer of the liver, but nobody knows where it started; they're starting to think it's in his brain. He's going through chemo, and although the doctor's seem a little optimistic, I am not. He recently had quadruple bypass surgery, then started smoking. He went off his "happy" meds, and now just sounds like he's going nuts (ie: he'll call from the grocery store and tell my dad what a beautiful vegetable he's looking at). He hardly weighs anything anymore, he's just a stick. He and his wife have huge money problems, they're selling their house, their car has a ridiculous amount of unpaid tickets on it....

I don't know folks. It's a sad sad sight. I pray for everyone who has this terrible disease, and any disease. SPIRU, i hope your friend makes it through alright. What kind of cancer?

Default S.A.D. = Standard American Diet

A large part of my family has either the following diseases - cancer (largest killer in my family), diabetes, or high blood pressure. I've said this in other cancer posts, but after losing both of my grandmother's to cancer within a year of one another, and being there when my own mother was diagnosed with cancer - I did some research. I did it to keep my mother alive and to educate myself and the rest of my family on how to beat this disease. The key to beating cancer is prevention as with anything else. It is always harder to get rid of something once the body is infected with it - think flu. I do not trust modern medicine. While it has come a long way and made advances in some areas, it is still insanely expensive and some of the side effects are just as dangerous as the symptom that is being treated. Modern medicine is not enough.

The United States has the most advanced medicine on the planet, yet it has the highest mortality rate. Why is that? It is the Standard American Diet or S.A.D. The foods that we eat have been sprayed with pesticides and genetically engineered, our milk has been pumped full of antibiotics (which kill both good/bad bacteria in our gut), and our meat is pumped full of steroids and antibiotics as well. Also, we have more fast food restaurants than any country in the world. I could go on and on about the grocery stores, artificial flavors/colors, and hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated oils, but that's not going to help your friends or family.

If you want to help anyone with a deadly disease, educate yourself and them on the benefits of eating organic fruits and vegetables, juicing, colon cleansing, and chiropractic care. Those with cancer already should stay away from anything that is not organic and meat (even if it's organic). However, if your loved one can't stay away from meat, suggest free range organic meat (healthy, anti-biotic free animals). It's a bit more expensive, but so is the cost of staying alive at your local cancer treatment facility.

My prayers and deepest condolences go out to your friends and thier families.

Done it! And continue to do so. My mom is a breast cancer survivor of 8 months now It's a terrible thing for a person and their family to go through.

But it can be beat!

She has cervical cancer. I always knew cancer was bad but its never hit me so close to home! She's only 23 and it suxs that I can't really do anything for her. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever be the same person again. Just the possibility of losing someone that I care so much about is really ripping me up.

Thanks guys for the support! Its why I love this place so much!

I really like the Livestrong program and have donated a few times.

I am also involved in the Relay For Life program and will be donating my time the weekend of July 15th.

My grandmother died from Cancer in 1975

A good friend of mine who I am doing the Relay with, son Anthony, who is now 10 - was diagnosed with Leukiema a year and a half ago. He is in remission!

Aww Chuck! I'm so sorry. I'll keep your friend in my thoughts and my prayers. I have had many family members close to me die of some form of cancer and I have 3 friends who were diagnosed a couple years ago. It's rough on everyone close to them.
I too have donated to LAF quite a few times. I have bought bracelets from the site lots of times and give them out. My best friend got married last july and her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a year before that. I told her instead of buying cheesy favors that people will eventually throw out..that she and her husband should make a donation to the American Cancer Society in all the guests names.

Cancer sucks, said the guy with it. However, I am not letting it stop me.

I think the thing about food, has to have some merit. I mean, I have cancer, yet I never smoked, or hung out with smokers...and drinking? Unless you count a beer every blue moon or so, I am not much for the booze. So, I have to wonder where the cancer came from.

I know there will be a cure some day. Perhaps I will be around for it. One can hope, right?

We are a totally organic consuming household here.

We do not have medical insurance but have not been to the Dr for anything other than annual check-ups for 3 years.

It can seem expensive but I still think we are saving money because we are not sick and to self insure would cost us 1,500 a month. And that's with high deductibles and co-pays.

We will be raising our own organic chicken, eggs, lamb and beef when we relocate to NY. As well as having a large organic garden, greenhouse and berries.

If you haven't tried organic meats you will be surprised at the complete difference in flavour -- it is more satisfying and cleaner, yes, cleaner tasting as well.

Is it a guarantee we won't get cancer? Nope. But at least I won't be able to say," what if we had changed how we consumed?" if it happens.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Lobbying your legislators to encourage them to provide health care for ALL americans will do more to save people than donating to Livestrong will.
