Default Why I love the ORG (and why I wish ya'll were locals)

So, I posted a much shorter version on ncdubs.com. This is the full blown "blog" I was going to write:

On the local boards for one of two vw clubs in my area, ncvw.org, there is one member who has actually been nice to me. I am the bug guy, and this guy is the only other 2.0 driver in the lot. He's basically hated because, he can't afford another car, but he wants to milk the Mk4 2.0 for all it is worth. He's basically been rolled in the mud over this by the other guys.

I've alerady managed to make this stereotypical 20-24 crowd angry at me because:

1) I own a house
2) I didn't need a co-signer for my car
3) I can afford to drive it every day
4) I have a job with a mile long title
5) I could give two fecies less about how fast your car is

I wanted to expand my technical knowledge, not engage in premitive peeing contests if you know what I mean. More and more the tuner crowd just annoys the ever living crap out of me. So, back to the other 2.0 driver (He has a jetta and we'll call him Hans to keep names safe). Hans has helped me wire up my fog lights, and he's helped me with getting transmission grease and overall he's just a good dubber. He will stand toe to toe with the other guys -- whom I might add get very irate if you say Porsche and not Porsch-e (a and not an e sound at the end). Anyway, I feel for this guy. He works hard, he's self-sufficient, and yet he's just **** upin by these guys in their little button up shirts and c-section baby smiles (no offense to c-section babies). I just don't undersand why so many guys are only interested in how fast their car is and seeing if they can take on and beat anyone else. Am I just a beta or did I miss the boat here? I don't get the competitiveness, I bought and drive my VWs for their relability. BY all accounts I made a conservative "right-wing" decision to buy the most economical, dependable, and stylish (ok that's left-winged) car I could: and it came in green to boot!

So. I just wanted to say THANK YOU to the true VW enthusiasts: those who drive their cars because they love their cars. Those who help out those less technical drivers with their upkeep. Those who stop on the side of the road to change a stranger's tire. The ones who give stranded coworkers/classmates a lift. To those who just "get it."

The Vortex, NCVW they both just suck. They lack this sense of community and replace it with a sense of fear and faux presteige. It's like buying a 2006 home with a HOA: the HOA exists so that your neighbors can play annoying mindgames with you and try to exert control over your property. It's just not right, it's not fair, and unfortunatly it's just life.

So, to those of you who post... please, keep posting. I know that no matter how depressed I get reading the slander of other forums, I'll always always ALWAYS call newbeetle.org home.

Awww KC! That's so sweet!! I too love the org and although I made a big mistake a few months ago and said something I shouldnt have, most of you have forgiven me and I appreciate it more than you will ever know...and I know why. Its because we are like one big family. We may not all get along but for the most part everyone is always welcome here and when we do or say stupid stuff the real people here forgive us!
And about that c-section baby remark...I've never heard that before. Whats that about? Im curious ! (I was a c-section baby )

That was a nice post to read. I don't really go to any other VW Forums. If I go somewhere where there is flaming going on, I just leave that forum. I've been there and done that, and it's pointless. I am suprised how cool the people are on this forum. It's quite refreshing.

I use to go to some of the Vortex meetings, I thought it was cool to see how they made their cars fast. My brother is a Vortex member, but he isnt a "Richard".. He helps people out, and he doesnt involve himself with stupid stuff.

The local groups like to hit the clubs, drink, and drive... Personally, Im just not into that lifestyle... Maybe because the people are just young- 21... They havent had to make their house payment, pay bills, car payment, or whatever ......

One kid told me that the Org was for OLDER PEOPLE.. I just about fell over. I dont think as my self as a old lady, thankyou!

CGB: the C-section babies are babies whose mothers couldn't birth them through the birthing canal and so they cut into the abdomin and pulled them out. They tend to have a nicer, pinker complexion than regular babies because their body wasn't pushed though the birthing canal, which is rather um well painful for mom and child. It causes the baby to have a red complexion after birth. It's just something I've noticed since going to school/living with c-section babies: they're prettier in the face!

And thanks to all of you who share my sentiments. I wish no bad feelings, I just wish we all could get along.

See, thats what alienates me: i'm 23 with 4 types of insurances, 2 cars in 2 states, a house and 2 cats. I'm as 30-something-grown-up as it gets, and I can't help but feel I sold my youth for it and I still get zilch respect from my peers (that are my age) but get lots of it from those older citing a job well done.

But if I was puking drunk with a 0-60 in 5 second GTI I'd be the hot dog shiz-nit and probably a future senator. IS there justice left in the world?

Ahhh ok! Yeah I've noticed that too but I thought there was something else, maybe a phrase that people have used about c-section babies that I had never heard before. Thanks for clarifying that And I too wish we could all get along but there are some people that just dont know how to let go of things and also think they know everything. I'm sure there are people, who in real life maybe dont have many friends and instead of using forums like this to make up for that they get on a thread and belittle people to make themselves feel better. These are people who can never be killed with kindness and its sad. These people are also hard to ignore and I get so tired of seeing it in some places that I have to say something to them...which only makes things worse on their part. They get nastier which in turn makes me madder when I know I should just ignore people like that. I sometimes forget that that's what they're looking for and I end up giving them what they want
Ahhh there I go again...rambling. Sorry! Its the end of the day and I'm avoiding my work!

i've been a member of other forums (non-car) and i've always been pleasantly surprised how great the people on the .org are. it does feel like family to me, it really does. what a great group of people! things really are different here and i love that WE're all different - ages, sex, nationalities, sexual orientation, religion. it's great. i feel totally at home here.

i find that any forum that's overrun with 21 - 25ish year old males is usually a destrucrive one. generally. no offense to any males in that age range though. but i belong to two laptop forums and one cell phone forums and most of the regular members are males, ages 21 - 25 and man, are they harsh!

thanks for posting KC.

I'm out to convince the local scene that Beetle and 2.0s belong here. We shall possibly find out tonight if i check out these Eurokings guys at their GTGs. Not a Beetle in the bunch, but they they claim to like Beetles. Maybe it's regional or just certain social circles. These guys have all been nice to me on Vortex and the one fellow i met breifly was cool too. And they are all young.

But i feel ya KC. I got the nastiest looks at S&G. One GTI even rode my ass so close i just purposely dropped 15mph until he backed off.

I did have a GTI give me a peace sign the other day... that made me smile.

Actually, nothing makes me glow more than (usually) a young girl, probably a NSCU freshman, in a new beetle (convertible) who waves frantically in response to my initial wave -- I can feel the love. Racers, not so much for the "love" department.

I feel the same way about our local clubs. I find that either A) they are into Air Cooled cars and don't respect the fact that our cars are the "offspring" of the ones they love so dearly, and B) the water cooled clubs are so anti-beetle that I should have them charged with discrimination.

I met up with over 50 other VW owners to drive to the Show n Go and Englishtown. We met in a Mall parking lot and waited around for over an hour before leaving. Not one guy/girl came over to me, and when I tried to talk to them all I got was SH_T about driving my NB. My brother, who drives an unmodded VR6 Jetta, got a better reception!

The funny thing is that for all of their performance mods, those kids couldn't drive at all. I know I could beat a lot of them on the track with my 2.slow, just because they were kids and didn't have a clue what to do with their cars. (I actually seperated myself from them on the highway, because I thought they were dangerous.)

I have found that I actually get more respect at all make/all model types of shows and get togethers, because most of the people are A)a little older and more mature, B)more into cars than just a specific make, C) more respectful of the time and effort that someone has put into their vehicle to make it special.

My only wish is that more New Beetle owners would show their cars and participate in automotive events (shows, cruises, autocross, etc...).

I'm considering going to some Scnhell Motorsportrs GTGs, bu I'm worried about "Beetle Hate". There is a bi-monthly one near me, and I'd love to hang out with other VW owners, but I don't want to meet up with people who hate me becuase of my car.

Ah, it's good to know that some young folks can be responsible; I see way too many young punks who are all about speed and getting trashed...

I sometimes wonder who will run the planet soon. Will there be enough young people who are responsible?

Anyway, glad you are here.
