more like...
it's lame.

i'm sorry, but roswell had its somewhat "cool factor" in the early 2000s when tons of cars showed up to the event.

the whole let's-go-nuts-with-aliens thing still freaks me out.
i know it's all in good fun and jest, but it's just not a real car show so much... no wonder new beetles get made fun of in the car world.

sorry... just being real.

I didn't want to come right out and say that Amanda

But I did attend two of the better years, but probably still not the best years to go. I think they had 70 last year and we had almost that much in Dallas last year.

Don't get me wrong, if I would have won the trip...I would be there this year just to see ma peeps!

i went in 2001 when the whole earth's population of new beetles were in roswell... or at least it seemed.

they need to kill the show...or move it to another part of the country without the whole alien theme.

i think the show only appeals to an older crowd.
i know too many younger kids my age that would go if it wasn't so senior adult friendly... make it more like a regular car show.

but either way, to the people that go... hope they have fun and hopefully there will be a descent amount of beetles that show up that make it worth while.

One thing this year that was started up again is the
new beetle races. The new drag strip "area 51" will be
hosting the race thanks to Justin from Roswell and Lance
from Denver. It will be lots of fun on Sat night.

I don't mean to start something, but, everytime someone mentions R2k, You get hit with alot of negativity..(usually people connected to the new beetle round up.) Or it seems that way.. I've been to both shows, and have enjoyed them both. I have been to other V.W. shows, and have enjoyed them as well. You go to get away, to meet up with friends, and have FUN! What makes you think it is so senior adult friendly? I'm not a senior, and have enjoyed it. Regular car show? What is so different that other car shows?? Why NOT be different?? The soap box is now available for you now,

an award given for the most aliened themed car is silly.
it just seems like a joke.
i've never been to any other car show that had anything remote to such an award.
this is why, amongst other things, that cause people not to take the new beetle serriously.
i've told friends, family, and car show enthusiasts about it, and all they do is laugh... and that's embarrassing.
but whatever... like i said, roswell is all in good fun and jest.
i just honestly think it's geared towards an older crowd.
and i've been to roswell, so i know what i'm talking about.

it just seems to me, and plenty others i have talked to, that the show is getting old.
that's cool that they are setting up a drag strip for races... but i've watched plenty of 2.0s, TDIs, and 1.8Ts race before on quarter mile strips, and with my opinion... you're not missing much.

plus, i wasn't being negative... just spitting the truth.
i understand that some people just can't handle that.

I went a few years ago and had a blast!

Personally, I think events are what you make of it. you don't have to participate in all the alien stuff, just go and have fun with friends.

Maybe they can make it like a real car show and have a category where you produce receipts for mods/work done and called "Spent the most $$" for the 'fast and furious' younger crowd..

I do agree with moving the location so others could more easily go.

Hope you aren't getting that vibe from me.
Just really too hot, and the numbers have dwindled.
Yes - we do pride ourselves in our judging system for NB's...but they are different shows, I know that. There are different reasons for both shows to attend.

The Roswell show started out as a NewBeetle List (Topica) show and they have never really tried to court NB.org - only those few crossover members that are on both boards.
I know for the Topica folks that Roswell is more than a show because they socialize much more than others of us that came across the show later in the beetle craze. Guess that is what happens when you have the original crew that got the car in '98 and those of us that got ours in 2002.

My first year I was disappointed with the show (judging), but the second year I realize that the weekend isn't about the show and more about the people....without worrying about the show I pulled 1st in my class.

I just haven't been back because of the heat and the drive...and partly because of the failed promises of the 5th year.

Overall I have positive experiences and in no way mean to be negative towards Roswell...like I said, I entered the contest, I really wanted to win the trip this year and was kind of hoping that I won so I could make the trip to see what it was like after a year off.

If the show was more in the middle of the country (aka, not a 4 day drive) and had a "normal" car show feel to it, then I'd do everything in my power to be there. But, with its cutsy alien theme and horrible location (hot and in the middle of nowhere!) the only way I'd attend in the future is if I flew out just to attend the show. I think what they need to do is host this show in a more central location and have it be a NB/NBC only show that's geared more like a traditional carshow. I mean c'mon, people winning awards because they have 10,213 aliens in their car Don't get me wrong, I had a blast last year when I made the trek from PA to NM, but I won't be doing it again; too much time off work, too much driving, too hot, too many weird people and cars. Just my opinion though!

I won't be going - it is HOT! Actually my #1 reason is I'm going to see Alan Jackson live at the Greeley Stampede on that Saturday! We got tickets in January so I'm really excited now. AJ has so many good songs and I love country music and cowboys in general. GIDDYUP!!

Hell the only reason I go to car shows is because of the people, who cares if they got silly trophies or class's. What makes the alien themed car trophy any better or worse than the paper NB trophy. The whole point is we are all on this website and go to these shows for one reason.
WE ALL LOVE THE NB'S
I do agree its HOT but hey when your sitting around drinking your fav drink of choice talking about the trip to what ever show and what you did to your car or how cool marvins dash looks or how cool Ottos flame job and lights are (after the accident) or what's new on Magu. Thats what is fun, friendship. If all you care about is the compition buy you an old 32 Ford custom roadster something that done right would put almost any NB to shame in a real car show.
HAVE FUN MEET NEW FRIENDS (I know I have USABUG2003,Magu, Marvin, Otto and many others)

THATS WHAT I THINK ABOUT ALL CAR SHOWS.
HAVE FUN!!!!!!

Agreed, it is all about the fun. Problem is, I can get fun much closer to home at any one of the local car shows or GTGs. I'd go to the Roswell show if it was closer to home and not in the middle of the desert.

To each his own right?

I may not be as young and cool as I used be but when I was younger I had a thing for aliens. I collected all kinds. Cute, whimsical ones, ugly, slimy, "realistic" ones (realistic in the "so and so says they saw one and this is what it looked like" sense.) Im done with that but Roswell is a place I have always wanted to visit because of the whole alien thing and the fact that they incorporated my favorite car into it makes it even more appealing to me. Some people may not get it and I wouldnt go for the awards but I want to go just once before I become a senior citizen myself.
