Doyle, Dane, Burbeck... at the time, those ads were very controversial.
Who ever thought of a car company poking fun at itself?

You can prolly find more here.

VW advertised in LIFE, LOOK, National Geographic, Playboy, and many others. I always look for old mags at yard sales. I got a stack of LIFE from the 60s-70s for free from a lady cleaning house last summer and pulled about 30 nice single and double page dub ads. They ran every other month or so. In early years, the in between months were filled by Simca, Opel, Renault, Volvo, Saab, and other Euro small cars. By the 70s, the non-VW months had mostly Japanese brands.
