Angry Plato's Closet WHAT A SCAM

Today I took in two suitcase and a box full of clothes shoes and hats to Plato's closet to consign and immedietly a girl notcied my coach sneakers! She was gushing all over them! They tell me it will take an hour and I should come back or I can look around. Well I had no intention of buying anything so I left and visited my aunt who works at a bank across the street. I got back and say they wanted 8 things and they where giving me 24.50. Ok I got my money and left. I am of course thinking there is no way they took my coach stuff since it was only 24.50 and the shoes where a hundred and so was a coach purse I had. I go to the bank and I come home. I search thru all my stuff but surprise! My coach stuff is gone! I am so so mad! I knew I should have checked what they took! I am so pissed what a scam!

Not really a scam, that's how all those places seem to be. You have to remember:

1. It's used stuff
2. The store needs to make a profit

They buy stuff from you real cheap, then put it for sale for X amount of dollars higher than what they paid you for it. I used to work for Gamestop where they sorta did the same thing. Someone would have a new game that was $60 brand new, we would give them around $25-30 for it, and sell it for $55. Annoying, yes. But that's buisness for ya.

So you didn't check to see what you sold them for $24.50?

They didn't even tell you, or give you a receipt?

Doesn't sound like a scam to me. They have to make money somehow.

Why would you just accept money and take back the stuff they didn't want, without seeing what you were getting money for?

Can't really blame them for you not doing your part.

Frankly, if you have enough deductions to total more than just what is standard you would've been farther ahead to give them to the Goodwill or a similar charity. You could've claimed a higher value for designer items like those. If not, and you don't mind the extra effort, why not retail them out yourself on eBay? I'm sure a Coach purse would've prolly netted you more than $24.50? Until then, you should've been more aware of what you were agreeing to sell--can't blame them. There are a few stores like this in my town too--and they seem to do very well.

That place does suck. I went there once and sold them like 10 thing for about $8. I didn't want the clothes anyway but since then I just donate them to shelters or the Cancer Society because the little money just isn't worth it.

The best part is that they try to keep the clothes they don't buy so they can "donate them for you." Haha... Why anyone would fall for that is beyond me.

But seriously, you should have checked what they bought from you.

I agree the place sucks.... i have had the same thing happen to me... the thing is it seems like a scam because half the time people bring in FAKES... these people that work there have no way to tell if it is a fake or not therefore, they have to take the baseline price for the risk of them being a fake because they cant turn around and sell a fake for what a real one is worth....
next time you have coach things to sell FIND ME or just do ebay... your bound to get more money!

If you were really about getting money for them, you should have unloaded them on ebay. For me, it either the goodwill store, or the trash.

I don't understand why you would leave stuff for them to go through.

I dig Plato's Closet. My girls get stuff that I otherwise couldn't afford. I love stupid rich people.

i deffinately agree that you should have checked the stuff before you left. it does suck but that's how they make their money, and like said above, if it's fake, they can't tell. and if it's real, it provides people with the opportunity to pay affordable prices for high price clothing. next time, save yourself the headache and anything that is designer, sell on ebay. anything that you just don't need/wear, donate. it's a better feeling, leaving and knowing that somebody who needs clothes will get ones that you can afford to part with, instead of leaving and feeling cheated. goodwill is a good place and i'm pretty sure it's the boys & girls club, but i know somebody will actually come and pick up items you wish to donate.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.
