Default Memorial Day

If you all are like me I am embarking on a three day weekend due to Memorial Day. I would just like to suggest that at least on Monday (the federal holiday for Memorial Day) if not every day of every year we all take a moment and say a prayer or at least spend a moment thinking about the men and women who came before us who died defending our freedom. I am not going to get on my soap box here, but only say that if it was not for these brave souls we may still be under british rule, there may still be slavery, all of Europe could be speaking German, Japan would never have backed down, the citizens of Iraq would still be under a dictatorship that killed its citizens at will and so on...I could keep going, but I promised to stay off the soap box.

Remember this weekend while we enjoy the three days off there are still men and women serving our country and fighting for our freedom.

Thank you to all who have served, are serving and will serve.

---Remarks removed by Farrisk.---

That being said, I agree that we all need to take a moment to say a prayer for them all.

My brother is in the army. He leaves for Mississippi in June to train and leaves for Baghdad in September. Apparently, 81 soldiers were killed were he is going...and also carried the same position. (I'm not good with soldier ranks & what their jobs are called!) But, I will definitely have him, and everyone else fighting this war, and the people that have fought prior wars in my prayers!

FarrisK...The soldiers that are fighting this war...and many of the others, were not forced into serving our country. They volunteered to do so. They're better people than I am, because I for one, would never sign up.

You said it perfect, thank you! This isn't 'Veterans Day' but still a great day to say thank you to everyone in the military. If others hadn't stood up to defend our country, who would have? Here's some random pics.

I agree! Thank God for the troops who risk their lives to keep us a free nation. That said, I will say a special Memorial Day prayer

Memorial day is for all the troops who have fallen. Not the troops still alive and risking their lives every single day for all of America. My thanks and prayers to all who have served & died, and all who are still serving. Thank you for your bravery and selflessness.

Technically, yes. But it doesn't hurt to remember those STILL serving.

Two threads going for Memorial Day...not that we can ever thank and remember our heroes enough!

My mom and I went to a service this morning at our town's war memorial site. It included a flyover from the Colorado Air National Guard. I wore my shirt that has Curious George carrying a pole with the flag on it. A woman there had on a denim jacket that said "My Heroes wear Marine Corps combat boots" I would change that to "My Heroes wear Marine Corps and Army combat boots" for my grandpas, dad, uncle, and friends.

Here's to remembering the fallen and their families....

Wow 8 years!! I'm not sure how long my grandpa served but he was discharged early because he was wounded. He has everything USMC and a couple Japanese swords and knives. My friend and classmate Josh served 4 years in Iraq and was discharged early from the Reserves because of a disability.

Today on the way to work I happened to tune in to the Cheyenne country station and they were playing audio from news stations on 9/11. Extremely powerful - I almost started to cry and I got goosebumps. That's the reason my classmates enlisted - give the Taliban a taste of their own medicine!

Yeah I grew up thinking everyone had a family member who is a vet or currently serving! I hope his knee continues to get better. Joints can be tempermental. My grandpa was on Pelilu during WWII. He was the only one in his unit of 12 to survive with no injuries but he was wounded by shrapnel during the battle of New Britain. Somewhere in there he got malaria and almost died. Almost all of his Marine buddies have died in the past few years. My other grandpa was in France(Army). My dad and uncle also are Army vets. Dad was a desk clerk in Vietnam. My high school classmates are in the Navy, Army, and Marines. After 9/11 the main topic of discussion was the best way to blow up bin Laden. I almost joined the Army ROTC in college. I think I gave my parents a pretty good scare! LOL
