oh i understand. i've worked in the business world and the education world.

and not being a parent myself (i'm the first to admit i'm too selfish and career oriented) - my logic says that parents, if not in a career or position to be able to attend to the child in an emergency situation like illness or school closing, should have a person that can be available... my grandfather was mine when i was in school; he was already retired, and therefore was almost always available.

Yeah, I agree, and I'm sure the majority of parents do have a backup. I just think, like stated, knowing this was coming, advance notice would have been the best approach, rather than just sending kids home early. I think that's what really gets to people.

At that point, it's MUCH more difficult. I'm not sure how the school gets the word out, but that can definitely lead to some issues for people.

Our school has an alert that gets sent out via phone. It calls the parents home phones, cell phones, and whatever other number they want called. They notified the parents at 9:00 am on Monday and at 8:30 am yesterday....school dismissed at noon.

Well, they've closed schools in Atlanta for it being too cold.

Heat does not promote a healthy learning environment. I'd say "SCHOOL'S OUT!"
