We're ok here. I haven't been out and about much this week (work) but I'll be checking out some areas tomorrow. We're very lucky that we're safe and dry here. Water in the basement of course, but it's trickles, not a flood or anything.

I called my city today to see if they needed anyone to help sandbag AFTER 5:00pm, but she didn't seem to think they'd need help then. I'd really like to do something to help, but I don't know where to ask!

Deb, I'll PM you my #.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

The river is down to 28.5 feet this morning. Still more than double the flood stage of 12. It crested Friday at 31.1 feet.

I've started uploading some of the images from yesterday to Picasa. I'm trying to Geotag them, so with this album, you should see a small map on the right while viewing a picture. If you click on the map, you should get a larger one showing all the image locations for this album. Turn on the satellite view to get a feeling for how things should look. I'll keep adding to this album as get more images ready.

Cedar Rapids, Ia. Flood - 6-13-2008

Here's a few more interesting links.

Iowa DOT images of road flooding and damage.
Cedar River level at Cedar Rapids.
Iowa road closures.
Helicopter video of Cedar Rapids.

Interstate 80 is currently closed due to the river running over the bridge that spans it.

I should also mention that Cedar Rapids isn't the only flooded area. To the north, Cedar Falls and Waterloo got hit hard. Smaller towns along the river have been completely flooded and some evacuated. Waverly, Vinton, Palo, La Port City. Iowa City to the south is just starting to flood and expected to crest Monday or Tuesday.

I'll try and get more of my pictures up later today. Tomorrow we're heading for Chicago to drop our oldest daughter off at the Art Institute for a week long summer camp.

Ed

Thanks for posting all that stuff Ed. It's really interesting but tragic to look at all the photos.

We're not doing too bad here. The Mississippi River is definitely out of its banks, but not horrible. Here's some pics I took tonight. The river is supposed to end just on the other side of the riverboat, so I would guess it's a good 100 feet past that.

Hello miss thang.

This is the city that's right next to us. We're both on the Mississippi River, but there's more flooding in Davenport. The pics I took were about 7 miles from where I live.

I can't imagine -- we've had 2 bad floods in the last 40 years and neither was anything like this.

I've uploaded a few more images to my Picasa site and tagged some of the others for location.
