Default Any Ebay pros here?

Hello all.

I am getting ready to list my first "big" item on Ebay and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice, other than the advice the Ebay instructions show. I have sold a couple of action figures from Star Trek, but now I am putting my Kayak rack on there. I have a set of locking railriders and Mako saddles and the locking systems with key. It can be used with a bike rack as well. Anybody who has done this have any advice for me? Thanks guys!!!!

Scott

Put all the details on there. Everything you'd want to know if you were bidding on it. Any dent or scratch. Take lots of pictures!!

And I hate when people have grammar or spelling errors in their listings, not that you would... but make it pretty and professional!

No. You'll get an opportunity to be patient.

If it's a high-ticket item, watch it until the very end. You have the right to block bidders and even delete bids if you want. Also, I wouldn't let noobs bid on it, and especially new users (users with no feedbacks). I won't even waste my time letting a new user bid on my item. If I see them bid, I delete their bid right away and then put them on a blocked list so they can't bid again.

Also, think about putting a reserve on your item. It protects you from having your $1000 item sell for $200. I always set reserves on my items. Also, consider doing a Buy It Now - that just gets things done quick and for one price. Frankly, I don't like the waiting of an auction! I'd rather just have it now.

Post GOOD pictures. And more than just one. I can't stand wanting to buy something and seeing fuzzy pictures! And put lots of information about the item, too. When I'm looking to buy, clear good-quality pics and a well-written and complete description are a must.

Check out this section on eBay about blocking and buyer management.

I've sold a few things on eBay and can't say I enjoy selling there anymore. There are so many fees and anymore, eBay is more setup to protect the buyer rather than the seller. I hope you have better luck than me. Due to recent experiences and eBays 5000 fees, I will no longer sell on eBay. I wish you a better experience!

Let me know if you have any more specific questions.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

Dittos on a good, high quality hi-res picture, which as we all know is worth a thousand words.
Another good point is to time your auction closing time at a convenient hour. In other words, if you're targeting US sellers, don't let your auction end in the middle of the night or on a holiday when folks are likely to not be home near their PCs. Make it early enough where people can try to outbid each other until the last moment.

Weigh your item with the packaging. My pet peeve with sellers, is the high shipping costs! You also don't want to under estimate the shipping and get screwed! I have a postal scale on my desk, and have weighed everything before listing. Everyone else has good suggestions.

I agree with all the replies above but your racks will be
non-standard packaging. Best bet is to get it all packaged up and run by a UPS store or learn the difference betwen standard weight and dimensional weight. In my early eBay days I found myself eating into my profits by incorrectly estimating shipping charges. My last items were all Ford model T's, shipping NOT included
