NFL News - Wednesday, July 30, 2008 Sore elbow sidelines Raiders quarterback Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell was held out of all team drills during the evening practice Tuesday after banging his elbow off the helmet of teammate Darren McFadden earlier in the day. Russell, Oakland's starter this season after spending most of last season on the sidelines, complained of stiffness in his elbow after warming up and making a few throws early during the night session. The No.1 overall draft pick in 2007 wore a thick bag of ice on his right elbow at one point. He watched as Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo split the reps with the Raiders' first- when we checked him out after (the morning) practice he was fine," Oakland coach Lane Kiffin said. "But he came out and warmed up, threw the ball and it just stiffened up a little bit on him. So we erred on the side of safety and pulled him out at that point. "If we were playing a game he could have very easily played, so I don't foresee it being an issue at all." Kiffin said he expects Russell to be able to practice when the Raiders hold an afternoon workout Wednesday. This is Russell's first training camp. He missed Oakland's entire camp and the preseason a year ago while he was locked in contract negotiations with the team. He played in three games as a rookie, starting the season finale against San Diego. Eagles DE Clemons out of hospital, back in camp Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Clemons was released from a hospital where he was treated for dehydration Tuesday. Clemons was helped off the field at Lehigh University about two hours into the team's Tuesday morning practice. He was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital in an ambulance, but never lost consciousness. He returned to the training facility later Tuesday, the team said on its Web site. Clemons signed a five- year contract with the Eagles in the offseason, and is competing for a starting spot. Titans replace injured German lineman -Tennessee defensive lineman Ulrich Winkler has a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, and the Titans have replaced him with defensive tackle Eric Taylor. Winkler hurt his left knee during practice Monday afternoon and was able to walk off the field with assistance. A native of Munich, Germany, Winkler was in camp for a second straight year with the Titans after being on their practice squad last season through an NFL Europa exemption. Coach Jeff Fisher said Winkler was here this time because they thought he would be a good player to have in camp. But Winkler was waived in time for Taylor to be added to the roster handed out Tuesday morning. Once Winkler clears waivers, the Titans expect to place him on injured reserve. Jaguars' Meester out after injuring biceps Jaguars center Brad Meester could miss the start of the season because of a strained right biceps. Meester sustained the injury during training camp Sunday, but it wasn't clear he was hurt until he missed practice Monday night. "We're still trying to determine how long he may be out," coach Jack Del Rio said. It's the third injury in the last four seasons for the 31-year-old offensive lineman and the second in as many training camps. Meester missed the last four games in 2005 after tearing his left biceps tendon. He missed the first four games last season after breaking a bone in his ankle during camp. His latest injury means the Jaguars could be without one of the key cogs in a line that helped the team set a franchise rushing record with 2,541 yards in 2006. Longtime backup Dennis Norman, who filled in for Meester in '05 and '07, will move back into the starting lineup. "That's what you have to do," Del Rio said. "Nobody in this league is going to feel sorry for you. The next guy gets an opportunity, and we expect him to step in and play well." Niners' Robinson out at least 1 week San Francisco running back Michael Robinson will miss at least one week of training camp after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee Monday. Robinson, the former Penn State quarterback who has played sparingly in two NFL seasons, was injured when he ran into rookie guard Chilo Rachal during the 49ers' first full-contact practice Monday morning. Robinson returned to the club's training complex in the afternoon after the minor surgery, but the 49ers didn't provide a timetable for his return to practice. Robinson has rushed for just 237 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL career, instead playing mostly on special teams and as a kickoff returner. Joe Staley, the second-year pro beginning his first season as the 49ers' starting left tackle, could participate in some drills Tuesday after missing the first four days of camp with an infection in his foot. Cowboys CB Newman sidelined with strained groin Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman missed practice Monday afternoon because of a strained groin sustained in the morning workout. Coach Wade Phillips said Newman got tangled up with a receiver during a play and twisted his leg awkwardly. Phillips doesn't consider the injury serious. Newman, who went to his first Pro Bowl last season, left the field a few minutes before the morning practice ended. He watched some of the afternoon practice but wasn't in uniform. Jags' Williams hurts knee again Jaguars receiver Reggie Williams reinjured his right knee Tuesday night, hours after being activated. During the evening practice, Williams made a spin move after a reception and hurt the knee. He limped to the sideline, was examined by team trainers and then carted off the field to the locker room for tests. Coach Jack Del Rio declined comment, probably realizing he would face tough questions about whether Williams returned to the field too soon after an injury. Williams was placed on the physically unable to perform list as the team opened training camp Saturday. He said he sprained his knee running steps inside Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Williams missed the first three days of camp, but he was back on the field Tuesday morning wearing a protective sleeve, running routes and catching passes. A first-round draft pick from Washington in 2004, Williams had his most productive season last year. Although he caught just 38 passes, he averaged 16.6 yards a catch and had 10 touchdowns. If his injury is significant, it would be another blow for Jacksonville's offense. The Jaguars already are without receiver Jerry Porter and center Brad Meester. Porter, who signed a six-year, $30 million contract in February to be the team's No. 1 receiver, had surgery nearly two weeks ago to repair a torn hamstring and will miss at least the entire preseason. Meester injured his right biceps Sunday and could be out even longer. Meester was planning to travel to Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday to get evaluated by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. __________________________________________________ __________ END OF NFL NEWS |

sure did mang. If there's a saving grace, it's that the injuries are now and we'll have Meester and Planet Reggie back early in the season. I heard on sports talk today that Reggie is getting some orthoscopic knee surgery to clean up some things in his knee and should be ready for opening day. We'll see what happens.

Here's to hoping for another disappointing Cowboys team.
My prediction, if they Jessica Simpson comes to the first 2 or 3 games and they lose - a red neck will take her out. I hope they suck again this year like they did last year! Geaux Saints!
