Wanna trade places? I want an excuse not to do laundry Poor Dawn. Do you have a fireplace or a pot belly stove to keep you warm? I hope so. For the water problem you do know to keep the cabinet door open that the pipes go thru right? Helps in the kitchen too. Another thing is to have the water run slow but continuously . Use a blow dryer to defrost the pipes. Having a spiked hot coco helps too

-17 here today! Curby didn't start again today, so he's in the shop. New battery. Poopies.

Back to the pets thing. In the budgie (parakeet) world, there is a type called an English budgie. They were initially bred for show. However, they have been bred and bred and bred to be these big chesty birds (a desired feature in the budgie show world) and due to all this breeding, they have shorter life spans and can be lethargic due to the fact that they carry all this extra weight on their chest. They are so grotesque looking and seem to be able to do little more than sit there.

You don't usually see them in stores here, and when you do, they aren't overbred like they are for show, but it's sickening to me, nonetheless. They are bred for certain characteristics in the show world, and those characteristics compromise their health and mobility.

The first pic is my English budgie, Nigel(la). I got her from a private breeder. She wasn't bred for show, and likely has some "American" budgie in her, so she's not huge and chesty, but she IS an English. The 2nd pic is one bred for show. Their bodies and chests are huge and in some ways, disabling to them. It makes me sad to even look at them.

This is out in a utility room, goes only to the washer.

I have a wood stove, yes, thankfully.

Time for the landlord to pony up and call a REAL technician.

And just to add to my crapness--- the guy in the unit next to us has a pitbull who is not fixed. He is now taking to marking our stuff, right outside our door. The grill etc.

This is not good. He is clearly sending us a message.

Have your BW mark them as his. It should keep the pit away. you could also put mouse traps around it. He'll learn soon enough.

Although the workday is officially over (it's 5pm) I am still in the office.
With a sore right-foot.
My friends where I usually go to on darts-night, are not home yet. One is at the barber and the other is stuck with her mother with a broken down car, waiting for the Dutch version of the AAA.
Bummer.
So now I am on 'my' time and started up the internet

That IS sad I don't get that whole thing. It's like they're saying "I care more about what other people think of my pet than it's health" So stupid.
I was at a bird store and I was playing with the budgies and I was so tempted to get one but I'm not ready yet.

It's the same in the dog world. The more pushed in the nose is the better, but not for the dog, just for show. I think most breeders are nuts anyway. Too many homeless animals to be breeding more.

Both excellent ideas!

The BW is having a friend over this weekend and they will have bellies full of beer and I will have them mark away freely.

They might get thrown out if someone sees Dawn's son peeing on the grill.

I agree. It's sad though, because I def went for a Yorkie based on research and knowing that he would fit into our lives with little compromise of his natural nature.

Of course, I did not pay the going price at all. He is a pet and was already four months old. I named my price and someone stepped forward--- we chatted and she felt I was going to give him a great home/life and accepted what I was willing to pay.

Priceline for pets.........

I agree.

You'll get one when/if you're ready. And, if you get a budgie, I'd try to get a tame/hand-fed one. Maybe even a rescue if there's a tame one out there. Store-bought budgies are hard to tame, I think. Opt for a male, if possible, too. They are way more animated.

My next bird will be a lineolated parakeet, if possible. They look super neat and make the most adorable noises.

I agree. I was just watching a show on Animal Planet about English Bulldogs and how the females have to be artificially inseminated since the males' bodies aren't capable of sex. How dumb is that? You breed a dog to look a certain way and they can't even breed because of being bred a certain way. They also have nasal problems because of the smooshed-in nose.

Breeders are nuts. Most of them.

Nope I can't do it!
Actually I did once behind a gas station in Hoboken NJ. The back of the gas station was cleaner than its bathroom
