Typical Amsterdam style music (please save me!) Frans Duijts - Lieveling

And then we ask ourselves why it is that the Dutch music doesn't cross the borders, except for Belgium

Enjoy! or not...
Awesome! I will try these out tonight when I get home.

Make sure you have your mouse ready to hit the mute button in case of an emergency. Also make sure you're sitting well and can't fall off a chair of amazement

Ok so this is the first view I've had into this thread. Morbid curiousity made me want to know what on God's green earth could people churn out a 950+ page thread on Seinfeld. I've been thinking "good grief people give it a rest - let it go for goodness sake- Seinfeld was not all that!". Then I see chat about every subject under the sun here so I'm glad to see that you people haven't completely lost your marbles.

So again, morbid curiousity made me go look. (and listen). ......wow.......I never would have guessed that music was from Holland. It wasn't that bad tho. Well OK.... yes it was. But I'd rather listen to that than the crap they play today that's nothing more than a large woofer creating sonic booms throughout the neighborhood.

Actually, we have something in the US today that resembles that Dutch music. It's called Tejano. It's regional (and ethnic) so you'll only find it in abundance in certain cities (mainly those along the US-Mexico border). It evolved in South Texas and is a style of music that has roots in the German "oompah" style band and the Mexican/Spanish music of old. The Tejanos (people born in Texas of Mexican descent) are the primary fans of this music.
Here is a little blurb on it's history -> Tejano Music History So you can see a distinct European influence there - similar to what I was hearing in those videos.

Out of the 4 songs, Lieveling was the most tolerable. If it were in English, I could easily see this one at least making the charts back in the 1970's. It also has a slight resemblance to the style of ABBA.

BTW what does Lieveling mean?

In the mean time I've read you haven't had time yet, that's okay, you're not missing much
But perhaps, after reading what Mark had to say, you might be quite curious now

Wow, I'm surprised you actually like that music
It's not at all my type of music, no way!
Lieveling means darling by the way

Last summer Frans Duijts (the man who sings Lieveling) was performing at a festival in my village. When I was trying to sleep I could hear him sing That was not fun.

Well I didn't exactly say that. I wouldn't go out and buy the CD or MP3 - just that there are much worse things one could listen to. There's quite a variety of tastes in this country - no doubt attributed to our diversity and "melting pot" makeup. Just look at the variety on our satellite radio services. And I will admit, my tastes in music are very eclectic.

Lieveling = darling? I kinda figured something like that. I watched the YouTube cut a couple of times. Big mistake. Its one of those tunes that can stick in our head and you can't get it out. It was rattling around in my head the rest of the evening. But I was watching the video 'cause the blonde was ...well.....very alluring. Beautiful smile beautiful eyes......

Oops, my mistake
Popular music over here is the same as what you hear on the radio. Or at least, almost the same, we don't have the country scene over here. Dutch singing artist are a great minority as their music is mostly not the popular style, usually more chanson style. There's one young guy JIM who sings more modern, but this song is actually of Spanish origin .
Same goes for Jeroen van der Boom. The tunes I know from a Spanish singer.
This type of Dutch songs appeal to me

If you take a look at my iTunes library you'll find a range of styles. From 60's to rock.

Ah I see. So what's "Chanson" style?

My iTunes library has 60's 70's some 80's. classical, gospel, smooth jazz, country, some 50's and 60's crooners, and some stuff I'm not sure what you would call it.

OK so I looked at those videos. They were ok too. I could see them finding their way on my iPod. Funny the JIM one was filmed in Southern California - LA and somewhere near the Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. Of course they had to have him drive a Corvette. What could be more American?

You've already found your answer I see, but... I was referring to the French chansons

Yup, I meant to mention that in my post, but forgot all about it That location is much better than the average Dutch coastal line.
