Question Skills every Man should know?

I saw the article in Popular Mechanics a few months ago and meant to start a thread on it.

What skills should every man know? I post up a few:

How to tie a neck tie.
How to light BBQ Briquettes.
How to jump a car battery.
How to sharpen a knife.

I could add tons more, but I'll let the masses speak too!

  • How to turn the water off in an "emergency" (to fixture or whole house)
  • How to defer to a woman when she knows more about something than you do.
  • How to ask for directions, I suppose

(well, really, my answer would be.. Pshaw. who needs a man to do any of that?!)

How to please a woman and to know when giving up is a viable option when the before mentioned can't be done!

But I like the peace and want to avoid

So far, I can do everything listed... Except for asking for directions. Thats why I bought my Navigon 2100! I guess I'm on the right track!

Me too, but I'd swap 'colicky baby' for 'ask for directions' - something I do as little as possible but have done a few times in the past 2.5-plus million miles ...

But I'd add - Know how to protect your family from anyone breaking into the house and mentally prepared to pull the trigger.

In this day and age home protection is a must. Whatever it is one uses should be honed in that skill for that "just in case"

For me I've got my tried and true .45 1911 in the nightstand for my "what if".
